How does the bowl situation change now?
I really doubt the Sun would take Uconn now....so are they in the meineke will they even take them? How does this shape up for RU USF and Cincy?

RE: How does the bowl situation change now?
With two straight losses, I think UConn is in danger of dropping to the International Bowl, or maybe even the Papa John's Bowl since the folks in Toronto seem to really want Rutgers. Look for the Sun Bowl to take Cincinnati and the Meineke Car Care Bowl to try South Florida again. That prediction is out the window if the Sun Bowl wants to match the Bulls against Oregon State and the Meineke Car Care Bowl goes for a Ben Mauk against Wake Forest storyline though.

I wouldn't say that about the Sun. WVU is going to play for the national championship, and when a team of that talent level is on, like the Mountaineers were tonight, there is little you can do to stop the onslaught. I do think UC or USF is more likely, but you never know.

The Sun was never going to take UConn. Their director liked UConn, none of the guys who pick the teams did, however. Looks like they were right.

I'd imagine UConn could fall down to the International Bowl or Pizza Bowl. USF probably secured the bowl in Charlotte.

If you're the top non-BCS bowl in a BCS conference you can't justify picking a team that lost by 40+ in their last game, no matter who it is.

From what I heard on the WVU pregame show today, the Sun Bowl officials said they would take the highest ranked BE team available, and that looks to be USF. From the discussion on the radio today, most folk are apparently assuming that USF will go to the Sun, but if the Big 12 gets 2 teams in BCS bowls its not out of the question that the Gator could go w/ the BE.

The officials said they would take the highest ranked team AND look at head-to-head matchups. The higest ranking isn't guaranteeing a Sun Bowl slot they said.

Cincinnati was ranked higher than South Florida in all three polls, but not the BCS, last week and beat them head to head. I think the Bearcats to the Sun Bowl and Bulls to the Meineke Car Care Bowl makes more sense.

RE: How does the bowl situation change now?
Here is what Sun Bowl officials said:

"They play hard football, and they have a great chance of going," said Folmer, whose bowl gets the second Big East pick. "Depending on what happens in the rest of the season, we'd sit down and look at how they're ranked and how they played head to head."

If that's the criteria, UC would have an advantage. With two Sun bowl representatives in attendance, the Bearcats - who were a six-point underdog - dominated UConn two weeks ago, and earlier this month, UC outlasted South Florida 38-33 on the road.

But the head-to-head matchups are only part of the solution.

"When you've got three teams with 9-3 seasons, we'll consider who beat who," Folmer said. "But more important, it's if they're ranked and where they're ranked. I think USF will be ranked. I think UC will move up. There's a chance for them to move to the top-20. When CBS puts it up on the marquee and you get the 13th ranked team playing the 20th ranked team on New Year's Eve Day in El Paso, all that has a lot of sizzle."

The Bowl officials talked a lot about the other polls like the AP, Coaches and CBS polls not just the BCS poll.

That's not what the WVU radio folks were saying today, but maybe they were misinformed. I would imagine either UC and USF would be attractive choices for the Sun Bowl officials. I just hope whoever goes gets a big win for the BE 04-cheers

The Sun Bowl is basically already sold out so they don't need a school with a huge traveling fan base which is good for the Big East sans West Virginia and Louisville.

UC has 5600 bowl tickets sold already anyway... I don't think anybody is worried about UC's attendance for the game.

Hopefully it's a good sign that the UConn game has ended but the Sun Bowl officials haven't extended an official public invite. Hopefully that means they're waiting for UC to win!

In the Tampa paper they stated that they would wait until polls come out and then make a decision. So I doubt we will hear anything until Sunday night or Monday if they need to meet

Hopefully that's good news for UC. The BCS poll is the only poll that UC is ranked behind USF.

RE: How does the bowl situation change now?
It looks like the Sun Bowl opponent will probably be Oregon as of right now. They suck without Dennis Dixon and lost to UCLA today. Ryan Leaf's little brother, Brady Leaf, is Oregon's new starter and he was knocked out of that game in the first quarter as well. The Ducks will probably lose the Civil War to Oregon State next week and drop to fourth place in the Pac-10.

We are most likely looking at USC beating UCLA, Arizona State beating Arizona, and Oregon State beating Oregon next week. Those results would send USC and Arizona State to the BCS, Oregon State to the Holiday Bowl, Oregon to the Sun Bowl, California to the Emerald Bowl, and UCLA to the Las Vegas Bowl. UCLA could still win the Pac-10 with a bunch of upsets.

I would love to have UC/Oregon in the Sun Bowl! I think a Sun Bowl official was at the Cincinnati/Connecticut game a few weeks back.
