Owls get their first Win of the Season
A win is a win, and while the Owls didn't play their best basketball last night, it is nice to chalk one up for the good guys. Stegall really makes a difference, and Tanner Jacobs is starting to become a real player. JMac was in a suit last night, but I am not sure why. I am assuming some sort of injury, which is not good.

JD Pollock started at the point and played good defense, but still needs work running the show. McConnell came in and hit some shots, but looked uncomfortable with the ball in his hands. Big game tonight against Colgate. Need to even up our record at 2-2.

RE: Owls get their first Win of the Season
I will agree with you it was not a very pretty game. I made a comment last night to a friend I was with that if they play like that tonight against colgate, it will be over quick. I was at both games, and of the four, colgate appears to be the best. It will be a challenge but will help in preparation for the conference schedule.

Observations about the game:
1. everyone loves Stegall, I'm still not sold on him. I think he tries to do too much. There were a few times last night that he brought the ball up the court. I don't really understand the concept of having your biggest man on the floor bringing the ball up the floor.

2. where was Ronnell last night? He had one dunk on a breakaway, but he only scored nine points in all. They were gaurding him pretty closely so i can understand the few points, but you got to at least try to get your playmaker the ball. According to the box score, Wooten didn't even hit a three, he was 0-3.

3. I was impressed with a couple of freshmen who were on the floor last night. First of all, Kelvin mcconnell, #3 showed me some poise with the ability the bring the ball up the court. But most impressive, as was I'm sure for a lot of people, was #33 Tanner Jacobs. He's scrappy, and he was having his way down low last night. Good things to come from him.

Final Observations: The 1st 2 seasons in division 1 the owls have finished at .500 in the conference. A very preliminary finish i see for this year will be around that same mark. Although, with only 2 seniors (stegall and wooten), we have a very young team. This group of guys could get us over the hump in a year or two. I'm not expecting it this year, but I'm still not closing out the possibility. I'm just being a realist, and not a complete homer, i understand it's going to be and has been a struggle until we can get our feet under us as far as D-1 is concerned.

Thoughts about the game or what I saw?

It is tough to argue with Stegall's stat line from last night. While I agree that it is not the best thing to have him bringing the ball up the court, if it is what we have to do against some really quick backcourts then so be it.

Stegall's line last night in 23 Minutes (that is barely over a half):

8-12 FG
3-7 FT (ouch)
19 points
12 rebounds
6 assists
2 steals
1 turnover

Not too shabby I would say. If we can get that out of Stegall every night I would take it.

Good post. Can't argue with the stats.

I will not be able to be at the game tonight. Can somebody post some thoughts on the game when they get the chance? it would be greatly appreciated.

Stegall is horrible at the ft line. Uses no legs and uses all arms. It looks like he's doing a soccer throwin.

Always nice to beat an old ASun team that bailed. I never liked them anyways.
