The University of Memphis Needs the Wesley Highland Towers
The Wesley Highland Terrace which is retirement home located near the heart of the University of Memphis campus is very much identical to the Richardson Towers complex and would greatly expand on campus living if used as dormitories for students. With the location of the Terrace moving the retired residents to another location could be a logical step in attracting more students to the U of M campus. Especially with the pending renovations as apart of the Highland redevolpment. Your thoughts?

If the money is available, I would like to see both Richardson and Wesley towers torn down. Those are outdated, crappy buildings. Modern dorms are needed all over the campus, something similar to what UCF is building.

Wesley Tower (assisted living) and Wesley Manor (nursing home) next door, are not owned by the UofM...many low-income elderly (my grandmother lives there) depend on them to have a place to live.

Richardson needs to be torn down and rebuilt...as do several of the older dorms on-campus.

Go Tigers!!!

I lived in Richardson Towers in 1988/1989 and it was a dump then! It for sure needs to go. Cant imagine Wesley Tower is much nicer-hope so for the people who do live there. Neither one of these buildings attract or would attract anyone to the campus.

Richardson is scheduled to be torn down in a couple of years or less. The new music building is to go there. I think the pending open date is 2012. Although funding for it is not progressing like anticipated.

What's going to happen to the current music building?

If Richardson is in such condition to justify being torn down, how is the rest of the on-campus housing?

one of the girl's dorms is in the process of being demolished right now. Most of the other housing is acceptible but not anything special. Towers is terrible though, and has been forever.

Wesley Tower and Wesley manor are currently located on the landlocked University of Memphis campus.

Perhaps, but didn't the university sell Wesley Tower when they couldn't fill it? It was a dorm.

RE: The University of Memphis Needs the Wesley Highland Towers
being a former on campus resident living in both west and smith halls on campus living is great. i tell every future student to live on campus it was the greatest experience of my life made me feel like i wasnt in memphis. as far as the towers they need to go its bad when the first thing u hear out of a students mouth is dont live in the towers. granted they are nicer than the rest of the female and male dorms but they are very loud. they used to be called the jungle......or the high rise mound.....the food is gross over there. but they are used during orintation. the campus housing is great for the number of student living on campus...they cant even fill the rooms they have...things could have changed ovethe last 5 yrs since i lived on campus .....
