Didn't look as bad as I thought they would but don't buy any tickets to the MAC tournament yet. They have some talent, no depth and no team work especially on defense as of yet. Playing 4 freshman, two jc tranfers, two players who were out all last year and a couple of back-ups from last years team, it's a wonder they know each others names.
On the good side the one jc transfer at center is better than anything they had last year. Kinda of like a Malorie Griffiths who can score. Scull looked improved as a back-up.
Power forward has more size with the starter and a back-up who can hit 3 pointers. Thats the good news.
The guards are a different story. The freshman point guard looked competent and reminded me a little of Michele Burden. Runs the team well, a defensive liability because of her height, can score a little but not a lot. The bad news is that in her very first college game she played 40 minutes. That won't help come February when she realizes the season is more than 18 games. I hate to see what will happen if she is hurt.
The wing players were not very deep either. Bennett and Harkins have some experience and Harkins showed some of the quickness on offense she had before her injury her freshman year. I don't think it's enough. The backup power forward can play some 3 and Gibson's running mate from North Canton played a little wing but in general I think we will be outgunned at these positions.
As usual over the past few years the other team seemed to shoot like Pistol Pete from outside and we did not. Our high shooting % was because we had to drive the ball inside. While our centers are better I don't think either one is capable of scoring when the other team starts to double. No Shearers or Studers in this group. A couple of times they went inside out and if they can hit those shots they might develop into something. They need another recruiting class to have a chance of being a real contentor for a championship however.
Lindsey will lose some hair this year.

RE: Womens Team
Looks very bad. I am beginning to wonder if the Zona/Rubis/Buelow incidents have just killed their recruiting. Every position was wide open this year and yet he could not get a single top recruit. Gibson is good but not a Shearer, Zerman or Sherry. You think somebody would have come just because they wanted to play as a freshman. I think Lindsey has been forced to change his style and it just isn't working. The JC's will help but it's hard to build a team with them. The core needs to come from 4 year players. Let's face it if Peoples wouldn't have fallen into his lap due to her fathers health last year would have been a disaster. They have been good from 1990 to 2006 so I will give them this year and next but I am not confident in what I see. Every year there seems to be an issue. This year it was two players passing bad checks. In another post I said they needed to get rid of their volleyball coach 5 years ago. I hope I don't have to say the same about basketball in a few years.
