TCC,
Thanks for the link to the pics in the Courier-Journal. It was great to see David Novak in those pics. With Novak of Yum and Schnatter of Papa Johns, thats two huge corporate movers and shakers supporting UofL.

To our friends in the Big East:
Remember every time you eat at KFC, Taco Bell, A&W, Long John Silvers, Pizza Hutt or Papa Johns you are directly supporting Louisville athletics. As Louisville fans we thank you and Tom Jurich thanks you. Now eat up, we have an arena to pay for. 02-13-banana

Jim, if the local KFC's here continue to skimp on the potato wedges (filling the box half full), I won't be going there much longer 03-nerner interesting though that two rival fast food outlets support the same program.

BJ,
My teenage son works for the Taco Bell. I eat so much Taco Bell that I think I have paid for at least a couple of seats in the new arena myself. Man do I love the cheesy bean and rice burritos. At 99 cents it takes a lot of burritos to pay for two arena seats

You know it could have been worse. Yum tried to buy Burger King but the deal fell through. I would expect them to try and enter the burger wars again.

It is funny to think that when you go to a Louisville football game it's Papa Johns pizza and when you go to the new arena for Cardinal basketball it may well be Pizza Hut pie....LOL

Glad I dont eat at any of those places.04-jawdrop

Just kidding.03-lmfao
I think my family has paid for a few of those seats as well. Every friday night we either order in from one of those places or dine in. Except for KFC. The guys that own a lot of the KFC restaurants in Rochester were on hard times recently and the quality of the food went way down, if you can believe that. We had to stop eating at all things KFC.

That's a nice photo album on the CJ website. For anyone that didn't click through all 40, the facility is for men's basketball, volleyball, and women's lacrosse. Women's basketball took over where the men's team has been, granting nice facilities to all. You wouldn't have seen a brand new center open years ago and have 2 of the 3 sports be women's, but equal facilities is just as important as scholarship numbers with Title IX. You know it's nice when your volleyball locker room looks like this:

Or the video room for only the volleyball team looks like:

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Taco Bell and Pizza Hut based in Dallas? I know TB and PH's parent company YUM! Brands is based in Louisivlle....unless the taco and pizza companies moved their headquarters to Louisville recently.

You are mostly correct. Pizza Hut is based in Dallas & Taco Bell is based in Irvine, CA. However, both are wholly owned subsidiaries of YUM Brands, based in Louisville. It's common for subsidiaries to be based in different states or regions. For UofL, it's pleased to have the parent company nearby and interested in really stepping up their involvement with the university. Along with being the Papa's school and Louisville the world air-hub for UPS, UofL is pretty blessed to have such cash-full organizations willing to be a part of the university in a city the size of Louisville.

As well, KFC, Long John's, & A&W are all based in Louisville, with their parent company. That has it's own benefits. For example, UofL's new baseball stadium that was proudly displayed this past summer in the College World Series Super Regional is the James Patterson Stadium, named after James Patterson, the founder of Long John Silver's. I'm not a fan of the fish and chips, but our baseball team thanks you LJS lovers!

RE: UL fans...
One of the advantages we enjoy here in Louisville is we are the largest city in the country without a professional sports franchise and most Louisville fans want to keep it that way. Since we don't have any professional teams to compete with for corporate dollars most throw their money behind our program. It certainly makes it easier to build new facilities when you know all you have to do is make a few calls and the money will be there. Louisville fans can thank Tom Jurich for cultivating these relationships.
True story: When Mitch Barnhart, the AD at UK was soliciting donations for a UK basketball museum, he couldn't get John Schnatter of Papa Johns to return his calls. When the phones calls wouldn't work, Barnhart knew where to find Schnatter, at the Louisville basketball games in Freedom hall. So Barnhart goes to Freedpom Hall to a Louisville basketball to ask for money for UK . Schnatter did eventually write him a check.

RE: UL fans...
So the Kentucky AD had to go to a Louisville basketball game to ask a sponsor for money for his athletic program? That reminds me of the story where Hillary Clinton went to an Al Gore fundraiser to sneakily ask his donors for money for her Senate race in 2000.
