Icing the kicker
Worked again tonight in the Cornell v. Princeton game. The Cornell kicker made the first one (that ended up not counting) and missed the second.

They need to change this rule in both college and the NFL. The defense shouldn't be allowed to call timeout after the kicker and holder are set.

RE: Icing the kicker
I agree--kinda like calling a timeout after the Free Throw Shooter has released his shot.[/u]

thats so cheap that its not even funny but if the kicker misses it the first time and makes it the second your gonna feel like a straight up ass. And its bound to happen to coaches who do it a lot.

I disagree. The field goal is an important play. Say the holder and kicker are set and coach realizes that they've only got 10 players on the field. That significantly reduces his chance to block a kick that could be the difference in a game. Also maybe the coach realizes there's something funky about the formation and he wants to warn his players about a fake.

I understand why you feel the way you do, freezing the kicker was not the intent of giving teams time outs, but there's no way you can outlaw it because of the situations I just talked about.

RE: Icing the kicker
Any team can call T.O. before the ball is snapped.

What kicking teams have to do is to have a much quicker COUNT and snap the ball quickly after the 25 sec clock is started...because most T.O.'s in FG kicking situation occurs when the kicking team is taking their time...slowly getting set up...never in a rush to snap the ball (clock is usually stopped), etc...

Some smart special teams coach will have his kids get ready and SNAP the ball quickly.

Not sure if one wants the NCAA or NFL to make a rule that no team can call t.o. after the 10 sec play clock mark or not (10 secs or less).
