Sorry but I have to break away from my Louisville friends but I gotta go with the rest of the board right now in Temple over Memphis.

PLEASE STOP WITH THE TEMPLE TALK!!!

They were kicked out of the BE for a reason; they suck. It will take many, many years of them showing improvement before they should even be considered, and they haven't even scratched the surface with that.

I know Temple is located in Philly, but do they have the Philly market?

Someone from Philly correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing the Philly market is more like:

Eagles
Phillies
76's
Flyers.
...then some other non-Philly pro teams
...then some other non-Philly college teams
...then Villanova
...finally, maybe there are some left that follow Temple

There's a reason we all like Temple so much. A strong Temple athletically is a good fit for our conference given their location and their traditional rivalries with Rutgers, Syracuse, WVU, Pitt, and Cincy. And the whole northeastern thing with UConn makes them fit well there too. The only way I disagree is if BC is also available in which case they're a stronger asset and thanks to Rutgers strategic positioning in the middle of the state we will still get coverage in Philadelphia.

It may not be ideal but it worked for many years. Quite honestly, in this day and age, it would be an advantage if it helps us get two schools into the BCS. I would take that anytime.

I do agree that less conference games=better chance of multi-BCS. But, if scheduling problems out of conference force a nine-game conference schedule, it would be nice to have the flexibility to be able to do so.

As is with many players/students...especially if offered a FREE SCHOLARSHIP....many like to "go away" to college.

Of the 320 plus FLA HS football players that signed Div I scholarships last year...over 210 of them are going to school OUT-OF-STATE.

Reverse is true as many kids OUTSIDE of FLA...want to play football at a college in FLA...as teams such as FSU, UF, Miami, and UCF recruit targeted areas outside of FLA as well.

Heck...just look at the rosters of UL, WVU, Rutgers, et al...plus a lot of players in the SEC and ACC as well.

Almost every team east of the Miss River recruits in FLA...and some others do as well now like TEXAS, Southern Cal, etc...

As long as FLA continues to put out good HS Football Players...Coaches will always recruit FLA as hard as they can.

RE: Coaches worry it's too-Big East
People can get mad about the Temple talk all they want. There is more to a conference than just who has a winning team this season or the last 10 seasons for that matter. Geography matters. Markets matter. Basketball matters. Minor sports matter. The direction of a university matters. How all of the universities educational aims mesh together matter. Which university presidents play golf or go to reading groups together matters. The list is endless. We do not live in a football only world.

Maize, Brista, and I have laid this out time and time again. Temple is not even my first choice for a 10th member. Somehow getting BC to return and then helping Temple replace them in the ACC is actually my first choice for a 10th member. But if BC will not come back then I would be more than happy with Temple whether some people who never look at anything but football scores like it or not. It will be very important for us to have at least four Northeast markets in a post-split conference.

Why? No league should get an automatic number of bids. You get what you deserve. The Big East probably got the number of bids they deserved last year. There is no conspiracy.

I believe they got shorted by one two years ago (Cincinnati), and one (Syracuse) last year. As for West Virginia, I think losing to our rebuilding team cost them big time, because otherwise they beat UCLA (second year in a row).

Out of the 12 teams that made the tournament, you went 9-21 vs top 50 programs. That is why you got the bids you got.
That was according to a reporter this mourning on radio, it was discussed why you didnt get more bid. I dont remember, who the reporter was, but he did take up for you guys, but he felt that the number was in deed correct. I did not agree with him, so do not attack me. Also, Syracuse glad to hear we(Memphis) is going to have a home and home series starting year. Looking forward to it.

gdayre is talking about Mike DeCourcy. DeCourcy is the lead BB writer for The Sporting News. He's a well respected BB writer.

He said that he's tired of hearing the Big East whine. He said that everyone knows how you get teams in the NCAA tournament. You must beat good competition.

He mentioned that last year the following conferences had the following records against top 50 OOC opponents. The Big East number includes on the top 12 teams in the Big East and does not include Seton Hall, USF, Rutgers or Cincy. That's giving the Big East a HUGE benefit of the doubt...

Big East 9-21
ACC 18-12
Big XII 11-20

How many bids did the Big XII get?

Maybe Big East football is underrated and Big East basketball is overrated?

Doubtful. Last year wasn't as good as 2005, but I think that comment is incorrect. As well, teams should get bids, not leagues. I don't agree with saying that X league should get X amount of bids each year just because, but in the current Big East 7 or 8 is going to be the deserved amount most years with the current makeup of teams. Whether they travelled alot or not, Syracuse was hands down better than several of the last teams in last season, but were not given the bid due to political reasons and personal preferrences which shouldn't be in play.

Big East football was defintiely underrated. I don't think anybody outside of the Big East (or most inside the Big East) expected the Big East to have such a great year in FB last year.

Conversely, there was a lot of chatter on this board about the Big East possibly getting 10 or 11 NCAA bids. If you ask me, a lot of folks were greatly overestimating how good the league would be in basketball. If you're predicting that the league is going to get 10 or 11 bids and they don't come close, doesn't that constitute the league being overrated?

If the league was expecting 10 to 11 bids, then yes they would have overestimated themselves. I haven't seen coaches or the league calling for 10-11 bids though. I think I also recall a few on here calling for 10-11 bids, but that is a few select fans on a message board. Feel free to state they overestimated themselves. It will be near impossible to have that many deserving teams in one league because league losses will pile up, and someone has to take them.

If I remember my own comments on here from this past basketball season, I think I stated during the season that 9 would be good and 10 near impossible. As the season went on, some teams improved and others went in the tank. By selection day, I believe I was expecting 7, with Syracuse the only team that missed out being my mistake. I still fully think they should have been in though... if we want the best 65 teams including all league champs.

2 yrs ago when Cin missed, Didn't Cin suspend players during NIT Tourn for acadamics. I think Cin Pres made some body aware of this & Seton Hall went to the NCAA's instead. So that was a wash. Last yr with I tought Syc should have been in over Stanford, But Drexal should have been in over Syc. So that was a wash. Didn't you guys laugh at ACC for there belly achen about ' 06 tourn, now BE is coaches doing same thing.

More than just Stanford...Arkansas was joke there were 1 or 2 others equally bad--they were a bubble team. UVA at a 4 seed was hilarious. How many ACC teams were alive after the first weekend despite higher than deserved seeds?

Syracuse finished strong--their bad losses were early when they had injuries. They beat a Final Four team about two weeks prior to selection.
