I don't consider myself a wuss. I have sat through two of the coldest most freezing Liberty Bowls there have been. I prefer the warm weather.

Maryland is South of the Mason Dixon line, and is traditionally a major tobacco producing state.

Technically, Baltimore is in the South.

the logical one to move would be the canuk bowl... move it south to balt.. it only had something like 26k fans.. I sure they could beat that in baltimore...

Remember, Bowl Trips entails DAYS...not just a simple 3 hour game.

Most Bowl Fans spend DAYS in these Bowl Cities having a blast...seeing all the sites...and in warm areas...playing golf...hitting the beaches, etc...during the normal cold weather at holiday time up north.

That's how cities make $$$$$ of bowl games...by having attractions...and usually NICE WEATHER to bring in fans for days.

While the Harbor and the attractions nearby are a blast during the warm months in Baltimore...the way the harbor is set up is so that its pedestrian friendly...as in folks walking outside in the elements, which isn't a FUN activity in COLD WEATHER.

heck...zillions of folks travel to WARM places for the Holidays...without bowl games (i.e. Hawaii, Disney, Miami, etc...).

When most Northern folks think of a holiday vacation...a good chunk of them think WARM WEATHER.

PS. Since many pre-Christmas games have LOW attendance...maybe a Bowl Game in Baltimore should use like a 35,000 seat set up at Camden Yards...vs using a 70,000 seat Raven Stadium...which even with a 35,000-40,000 crowd would look EMPTY.

Navy will not want to play a bowl game in Baltimore every year. That city is less than 30 minutes from their campus. A bowl is supposed to be a reward for a team that had a solid season.

I think this can represent a great opportunity for the Big East and ACC to cooperate on something for a change. We start a Tampa Bowl and alternate Army/Navy with the ACC in Baltimore.

This solves the issue of Army/Navy ever stealing a bowl from us again, the ACC gets to freeze in Baltimore while we party in Tampa, and the MAC or Sun Belt can go play the WAC in Boise.

Me to! I think a bowl game in Tampa or St. Pete is nice. Then lets have one in a domed NYC area stadium. Then lets have one underground in one of the enormous caves at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. More bowl games are cool.

There'd be no worries about temperature fluctuations! You know every year it's a "balmy" 54 degrees at bowl time! Everyone has forewarning to bring a light jacket and they're good to go. It'd probably even be a defensive struggle each season, with the defenders aided by the stalactites & stalagmites.

RE: Papa Johns Bowl possibly moving to Baltimore?
the article did not say Papa johns was moving. The city of Birmingham might have something to say about that. Any new bowl in Baltimore or Tampa would be a low paying bowl. The NCAA is holding at 32 for the forseeable future so there will probably be little change.
A better move would be to cap the number of teams a league could send to a bowl at half of their membership. That will not happen but it should. The number seven team in Cusa or any other league has no business in a bowl.

I don't think that rule makes sense across the board. If you look at the Big East this season, I see 5 of 8 deserving of a bowl at this point. WVU, USF, UConn, Rutgers, & UC all deserve one, making 5 of 8.

College, no 5th place team in an 8 team league is deserving. That said, that is a subjective view on my part.

How about if said 5th place team would easily beat another conference's first place team? 03-puke

RE: Papa Johns Bowl possibly moving to Baltimore?
There is no way of knowing that would happen Mark. You open a can of worms with those kinds of discussions. Whether of not Boise St was the best team in the country last year is not provable because there is no playoff to determine whether that is true or not. I could prove they were the best team in the WAC and Big 12.
Is the 5th place team in the Big East better than the Sun Belt champ? How would you know that?
You do, however, cheapen bowls when you send second division teams, regardless of league.

RE: Papa Johns Bowl possibly moving to Baltimore?
Keep the southern bowls. If Baltimore is not going after a west coast bowl that is in trouble, or the Boise Bowl, or another non BE pre Christmas bowl from the south, then move the International bowl there in the future and have the BE control it with the "Navy Factor".
Either let an academy have he bowl when the BE can't fill the bowl or have an academy play a BE team in the bowl if the BE needs the bowl for one of their teams.:badger:
