Don't Get Fooled Again
This is the program's worst loss by far since Florida. I'm not going to rant and rave, but it's clear that :puke:Butch Jones has no control over this team. That was the sloppiest play I've seen out of CMU since I've followed the program and it only got worse as the game progressed. That is a sure sign of poor coaching.

Don't let the big wins over schools like Army and NIU fool you. We have to accept that we are not good against quality competition and Butch Jones is not that good of a coach.

The only silver lining is that we are still undefeated in a very down MAC and may still win it. However, it is clear the Butch and crew do not have what it takes to lead us to the Top 25.

HG, I think, you summed that up pretty well. We have too many good players to be this bad so many times this year.

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
We played one of the best teams in the country regardless of their rankings or lack of. We have won the games we need to. We might not be a top 25 team but quite frankly thats because we arent this year. I would rather lose big to Clemson and win our MAC games than beat Clemson and lose to NIU or toledo. By the way NDSU beat Minnesota this week.

In reality the offense played as well as they could. We were going against one of the best pass defenses in the country and lefevour still threw for 20 for 34 2TD 1Int.

Our defense played horrid today. They need to pick it up. I doubt we will face a team the rest of the year with as good an offense as Clemson. They had the best OL we will face all year and the best RB's we will face all year.

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
Oh Man,

Please don't pin this humiliation on the D.

The quick spread offense is great when its working but when it's not, it puts extreme pressure on the defense because a three and out is SO quick. The D hardly makes it to the sideline and they are back on the field.

The first drive was great. Then the Tigers made a few adjustments in coverage and our OC took the TE and backs out of the game. Add in some incredibly poor decisions and play on special teams, and you have a whole team loss.j

Stats don't mean anything in this game. Clemson showed class in playing 2nd and 3rd string for a large portion of the game.

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
Agree with MichMaster. Few of us expected to win today, and we made too many mistakes to keep it close. Many of those mistakes in all three phases of the game (turnovers, penalties, missed tackles) were made by freshmen, BTW.

HG, I understand where you're coming from, but we need more than one season to evaluate Jones and his staff. Remember, Dick Flynn won a MAC Championship in his first season, and that probably allowed him to hang around longer than he should have. Jones could do the same thing, but I won't praise him too highly, if he does. I also won't demand his head, if he doesn't.

The NDSU game hurt worse than this one, because the team simply didn't show up. Today and last week showed us that our special teams need some fine-tuning, and we already knew our defense was young and needs to improve. Against Kent, we need to play the run well, so that has to be a point of emphasis.

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
I was waiting for the "spin-masters" from CI to rationalize this loss.
This was simply horrible. Bad for CMU and even worse for the MAC.
The defense is as bad as Flynn's debacle. Now you know why the BT rarely, is ever, goes South to play the ACC or the SEC (unless it's a bowl game). If Heeke wants us to play phuck-bait for the money, then he can put it on his tab. This was "only" Clemson. What do you think Georgia is going to do? We'll be lucky to draw 10K for the HURONators. This is a major reason why attendance at K/S is not going to improve.03-banghead

There is good news, CE. Balls Tate just went to Kalamacrappity and beat the Browncows to spoil Homecoming. 02-13-banana

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
How many D-IA schools have given up 70 this year? 1 win UL-Monroe gave up 49 and Furman(a 4 loss D-IAA) only gave up 38 to this team. Do you have expectations for our team to be better than Furman?

This was a good team, but they have 2 losses and are not a National Title contender. I don't care if the whole team is freshman, there is NO excuse for giving up 70 to ANYONE, EVER!!!

I called this an "Ouch" game before the season began. Not surprised with this. This game didn't hurt our conference championship chances. Western helped us by losing.

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
Lets face it, we are the top team in a MAC Conference that is not been strong this year or last. Don't be too upset about this. We will bounce back and beat Kent and WMU. The game that worries me is EMU and that will be for all of the marbles.

We are playing several freshmen and are lucky to be where we are at. I know....I know...we should be better that last year, but we do not have Kress and Buzz messing things up in the backfield. They gave us a 3 man advantage on D.

RE: Don't Get Fooled Again
What team on the remainder of our schedule has even close to the talent that Clemson has? In fact we only really have to worry about EMU and WMU and we are better than both of those teams. Kent State is a perfect team for us to have next. Win or lose hopefully we can get things back on track before WMU.

Which is EXACTLY the point why people don't flock to K/S! Why go to a Mud Hens game, when you can go to a Tiger (no Clemson pun intended) game?!

Good thing we only have one more home game. EMU doesnt really draw the crowd anyway. That being said if we are going to either lose to Clemson on the road or BC at home I think I would rather take the paycheck. This isn't really even the point though. We should be able to compete against Kent, WMU, EMU, and Akron.

Why even bother with college ball when there's the NFL?

Mee too. But I still say the NDSU game hurt worse. If we can bounce back from that and beat Ball State, we can bounce back from this and beat Kent. Especially if our RB corps is a little healthier!

Final: BGSU 30, Kent 21

Kent has little to play for, as they have been firmly eliminated from the MAC East race. I say we get well next week and then get nasty versus the Broncies. 03-nutkick
