OT: Yankee Stadium as a venue
Q: As the Yankees move to a new stadium, what is to become of the original relic?

A: NYU football!

I know, I know, the odds are against this, but it seems like such a big school should be playing football. The big shots at the school don't want to pay for athletics, so it won't happen.

Yankee Stadium (seats 57,000) used to host the Army-Notre Dame game, which is now an afterthought, though the Irish could have used the Black Knights of the Hudson early on this years schedule. NYU played home games there until the school deemphasized athletics.

NYU= BIGGEST WASTE OF A MARKET

That would be be great for special attractions, especially Big East attractions or a Bowl game!

It would be useful for a bowl game if they tore down the House that Ruth built, and built a proper football stadium. No self respecting bowl game should be held on a baseball diamond.

They had the Gotham Bowl there, but fans didn't go because it was too cold.

They could call it the Diamond Bowl!

The Toilet Bowl would be more like it, if they play it in a baseball stadium.

It'll be torn down, commercial project including parking all tied in with the subway station there. Thats what I've read in the past anyway.
Anyway, the old stadium will be history, sad in a way, but it was freyed at the edges. The exit halls are way too narrow etc.

Yep. it is being torn down. The original plan was to keep it open, but the land was too valuble to just make it a museum in its current form.

The current Yankee Stadium will be demolished. Even if it did stay around, a better Big East game would be at the new Giants/Jets stadium being built at the Meadowlands. That's a real football stadium that will be state-of-the-art.

NYU has no reason to add a football team. The students there go to school in the heart of New York City. There are too many other things to do for them to pay attention to a football team that will most likely suck for many years if it even ever got any good. Tuition is high enough already (my best friend just graduated from NYU and it is much worse than even Syracuse...and that's saying a lot!) and the costs would never come close to outweighing the benefits.

I think Im going to order a NYU Football t-shirt from their bookstore, pretty funny.

Basketball probably won't upgrade since all of the NYC teams are allready established, and like you said, not enough people care. On the other hand, they would be the school that would control that market if they were big time. Alumni has to be up the yang, and you think they could manage about 10-15,000 students at a game.

That really sucks about Yankee Stadium.

Students at NYU don't get that traditional "campus feel" and therefore don't have as much sentiment towards their alma mater as many of us are used to. I don't think an NYU team in either BB or FB would garner much support.

RE: OT: Yankee Stadium as a venue
In the original plan the old stadium was suppose to be given to NYC. The upper decks were to be removed, the area around it refurbished with trees and a park to replace the park they took, and the refurbished ballpark was for the local teams to play at. Another outstanding job of the politicians and the "EVIL EMPIRE" screwing the the poor and the little guy after getting what they wanted and now even more. The rich win again, reneging on their promises, and pissing on the poor little kids who can't afford to pay their ticket prices and even see a game by the entities that just screwed them and stomped on them. :python:
