As time goes by, it looks more and more like there will be only 2 options for the WAC:

everyone's gone back and forth on this, but adding idaho does a couple of things:
1) evens out the schedule. everyone plays everyone else in 8 conference games.
2) for BSU, at least, it lets us add another OOC game, ideally with a BCS team to boost our SOS.
be nicer to add 4 new teams, get to 12 and have a nationally-televised WAC championship game.

Find us 4 _Western_ schools and I would tend to agree.
USU doesn't want to go back to the SBC as part of an EWAC, if it's all the same to you.
We'd much prefer to play folks in our area. For this reason, I support Idaho in, and would not object to LaTech out.
Who would those 4 Western teams be at that point?
The Montanas? Beyond that, who knows?
GOAGS! GOWAC!

here are 3 1-A options that have been bantered about:
1) UC-Davis. they play wac-style football already, and are in the midst of a stadium expansion donation program with the goal of building a nice 30,000 seat stadium.
2) sacramento state. i've seen some fresno posters on the barkboard mention them as a potential up-and-coming program, and to my understanding they would be the only 1A school in sacramento (read: big potential fan base)
3) portland state. one school i know little to nothing about, but have seen their name thrown in various posts, as well.
if the WAC could only land a big ESPN contract, we could focus on wooing certain MWC teams back into the fold. but without that happening, no MWC team would ever leave the more lucrative MWC for the struggling WAC.

The Montanas are a good fit (close to both Idaho schools and USU). Montana State need add no sports, and only needs to expand its stadium (_only_, he says lol) and increase scholie totals and add a couple or three thousand per home game to get compliant. Montana pretty much has the stadium, lacks two sports and scholie totals. Which really has the harder road, I wonder? The Bobcats aren't in that bad of shape since their recent FB coaching hire.
Portland State, up from Division II not that long ago, intrigues, but hasn't really gotten any FB support to speak of. Can Oregon really support 3 D-1A teams? Utah does it . . . barely, but one of ours is a private school.
Davis was Division II in '03. The jump to D-1AA happens this year in order to get the new FB league going. To say that a Division II school in '03 is WAC-bait in '05 or '06 is more than a stretch, IMO. Sac State explored the D-1 jump back in the early to mid 90s. They determined then that it wasn't feasible. Just because they are in a good population area doesn't mean they can draw (see SMU, Idaho, SJSU) in that area.
In the abstract, it would be nice if Pacific could bring back D-1A FB and join the WAC along with Davis and SacState. It would make a nice balance of the WAC, bringing its epicenter really close to about Reno. I would prefer it, in fact.
I'm very worried we'll end up having to reunite with the SBC . . . at least its Texas/Arkansas/Louisiana element in order to survive. Frankly I'm tired of having to go so far afield for partners. Being locked out by our southern swine for so long is getting to me, I guess. The verfluchte Schicklgrubers!
