I seem to recall watching sportscenter last year after Boise's only loss. If I remember correctly, it ended on a pretty controversial call, but there wasn't a big deal made of it.

These were the facts (again, if I'm remembering correctly):

OSU had the ball late in the game (on 4th down) and the QB or RB jumped over the O-line to try to get the first, when a Bronco swatted the ball out of his hands!! Great news, except the refs said that forward progression had stopped and called it a dead ball. OSU got the 1st, took a knee and ended a chance for a comeback (Boise was only down 2 or 3, and with the Bronco's explosive offense, there very well could have been a comeback!) But the most amazing thing was the coach led his players to the locker room with class as he did not allow them to linger and argue the call, but gathered them and took them off the field. It was almost like he understood that it was pointless to try and fight the Pac-10.

Was this the case and BSU effectively got "homered" by the Pac-10?
I just want to know what Boise fans felt about the call that could have possibly denied them an undefeated season.

If my facts are wrong, I would appreciate someone refreshing my memory.

no, you pretty much nailed it.

of course, as a fan i was dumbfounded that the refs made that call. however, i also realize that i'm biased.

but then i spoke to a few unbiased folks who also watched the game who felt that boise got screwed on the call, and members of the national media said the same thing (including on ESPN when they mentioned numerous times that BSU was "one controversial call away" from going undefeated.) i don't personally think it was a Pac10 thing or that the refs got bought or anything; i think it was just a bad call at a crucial time of the game.

the truth is, regardless of the call, boise was still down by 2 with about a minute left in the game. there's no guarantee they would've scored. but it would've been nice to see them get the chance.

water under the bridge, though. water under the bridge.

The Pac-10 also publicly apologized for the obviously bad call.

Thats how far BSU was to an undefeated season.... [Image: crybaby.gif]

Oh well, can't do anything about it anyway. Can't wait for next year!

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it fairly accurately. However, that one call, in and of itself, was most definitely NOT the sole reason why Boise State lost to Oregon State in Corvallis. Boise State had several other opportunities to win that game and they just didn't get it done. Can't blame the refs for the fact that Boise State went for it on 4th down (unsuccessfully) inside OSU's 20 yard line twice instead of kicking a couple of field goals, and you can't blame the refs for the fact that Boise State had OSU pinned deep in their own territory on that same drive that you referenced here, with a 3rd and 28 or something like that, and OSU got the 1st down. Nope, can't blame it all on that one call. 03-banghead
