You're not popping our bubbles, Pitt is the one that is going to suffer for this. But with a new AD in I expect him to get the boot in the next year or so.

If Pitt is stupid enough to extend Wannstedt's contract, then they deserve to continue losing miserably.
TerryD Wrote:Could be, Bobcat. But, his opening game against ND in 2005 on national TV may have set the stage for his PItt tenure.

Optimism at Pitt was sky high for that game and the Wannstadt regime.

There was a lot of talk that:

Wanny was a better coach than Weis.
Wanny may be a better coach then Weis. Weis has run ND into the ground, while Wanny has kept Pitt merely mediocre.
TerryD Wrote:Palko was a better QB than Brady Quinn.
I think Palko was the better QB. I still do. Brady Quinn had the ND media machine advertising his every move. Palko couldn't compete with that, and Wannstedt's poor coaching. We'll find out for sure which is the better QB after their pro careers finish.
TerryD Wrote:Greg Lee was better WR than Jeff Samardzija and Maurice Stovall and would be unstoppable.
This one is a toss up. Greg Lee and Samardzija both had all the intangibles that make a great receiver. We'll never know about Samardzija, since he chose baseball over football for his career. Stovall was beneath both.
TerryD Wrote:Eric Gill was a much better TE than Anthony Fasano.
The TE battle was definitely weighed in ND's favor. But Gill wasn't bad.
TerryD Wrote:After a three TD ND win on primetime ABC TV followed by the Pitt loss the next week to Frank Solich and Ohio, a lot of that Wanny Fever seemed to wane.

I don't think it ever really has returned.
If Wannstedt fever ever returns to Pittsburgh, I think there may be a vaccine for it. They'd need it to cure their football program.
