UCF coach to Syracuse?
Thanks to KNIGHTTIME for giving this link in a different thread, but this caught my eye:
http://blogs.tampabay.com/usf/

Quote:O'Leary a match for Big East job?
Had this posted and then managed to overwrite it .. First, a few caveats: Greg Robinson still has a job at Syracuse, and arguably needs just one more big win like his Orange had against Louisville to keep it beyond this season. And what I'm passing along is just old-fashioned name-dropping, but given the timing leading up to Saturday's USF-UCF game, it's an interesting conversation piece.

The Sporting News' Tom Dienhart, writing about potential candidates for potential college openings, mentioned UCF coach George O'Leary as a good match for Syracuse, should the Orange make a change. Dienhart also mentions USF defensive line coach Dan McCarney, the longtime Iowa State coach, as a potential match at Northern Illinois.

Thoughts? I've got plenty of UCF fans posting here this week, so I want to hear from you as well. USF fans are used to their coach having his name dropped in relation to openings, even before they're openings. Are UCF fans worried about losing one of the strengths of their program?

Syracuse should go after the OC at BC & former ECU coach Steve Logan. You guys would love his offense in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse has to fire Robinson first.

I'd love to see Logan coaching again. Syracuse is as good a place as any.

He does have a history at SU as an assistant in the early 80's and even coached at Liverpool HS for a short time. But I'd rather see SU pick a young, up-and-comer rather than a retread. There probably aren't many Brian Kellys out there, but that's who I think SU should try to get.

You would have to pay $5 million to UCF for a buyout. He also makes $1.1 million a year at UCF.

RE: UCF coach to Syracuse?
haha, if he does, maybe we can get Steve Logan! If he did go to Cuse, it would probably help UCF's chances of getting in the Big East because we would have an ally. Who would we go after? Logan's my number 1...after that I don't know. I wouldn't mind getting Kruz back as long as the AD is doing oversight. Maybe an NFL assistant from somewhere?

How much does Robinson make at Syracuse right now?

$650,000 I believe, I could be wrong. I believe Robinson is the lowest paid coach in the Big East. I expect Syracuse to start paying top dollar for their next head coach.

O'leary's buyout is what UC needs to do for BK....let's go Cats, lock the man up LOOOOONG term and make it tough for another school to get him.

Yeah, that salary is about right. Coach P made over $1 mil before he was fired, though, so 'Cuse will pay if they have to.

Steve Logan would be great, but I was Syracuse I'd try to thrown the bank at Paul Johnson at Navy. That guy is one of the best coaches in the nation, he's won everywhere he's been. If you can win at Navy, you can win anywhere in the country.

I like that guy, a lot. But the winters in Upstate NY will chase alot of potential coaches away.

That may be true. There are some Brian Kelly-type coaches out there for Syracuse to scoop up though, who would love to coach there. Syracuse has a great home field, strong facilities, great tradition and a great conference affiliation.

I agree. Mike Thomas is the type of AD that will do what he can to get the job done. And I think Kelly would be willing to do it as long as UC gave him a significant raise and strong dedication to improving facilities even more so then now.

And isn't SU the school that O'Leary first began lying about his resume? I believe its the first resume that had the NYU master's degree.

RE: UCF coach to Syracuse?
I was thinking during the game last night that I wouldn't mind watching a Paul Johnson coached team in the BEast. I loved their running game. I was constantly wrong about who was really carrying the ball. It was fun to watch. I think Johnson would be better at Cuse and Logan better at Pitt.

If O'Leary left UCF, he would be making the same mistake Schellenberger made when he left Louisville.
