a few offseason questions regarding football stadiums; please provide any information you have regarding your own school's current stadium expansion plans or others that you know of:

1) what NCAA 1A schools are currently expanding their football stadiums?
i know wisconsin's camp randall stadium is currently undergoing rennovation and should be done by this season (i believe).

2) are any NCAA 1A schools in the process of building a new stadium?
SMU recently completed a brand-new facility (Gerald J. Ford Stadium); that's the most recent i can think of.

3) does your team have plans to expand your stadium in the near future?
(please supply any renderings/links if they exist) boise state just announced their plans to expand with a new press box/luxury box. no publicly-available renderings exist yet that i know of.

any detail you can share regarding your team's current and future stadium situation would be great.

I think most everyone knows this already, but Utah State is in the midst of some serious rennovations to Romney Stadium. They are finishing up the artificial turf this week. I think the expansion will occur by one major project per year (but don't quote me on that), this year being the turf. Other Aggies know more details than I do, but here is a link to check out the future of Romney!

Marshall Stadium will most likely go from 38 to 40 K in 2 years maybe 3. It deosn't sound like a lot but when bring in teams such as S. Miss, ECU, Memphis who will most likely sell the stadium out makes all the differece. It also makes a differece when we have teams like K-State who will be coming next year. We have Tennessee coming in 07, VA Tech 09 and Miami in 11.

thanks for the romney images -- from what i hear, boise state is hoping to emulate utah state's new press box/luxury box/club suite tower for bronco stadium our AD confirmed that on a radio interview a couple weeks ago.

could happen in the next 1-3 years, with future expansion following.

re: marshall, that's an amazing OOC schedule. wish we could get more BCS teams to boise (Oregon State is coming this year; either Washington or Washington State in future years, i forget which), but that'll probably only happen once we upgrade and expand the facilities.

Last we heard (before the new AD was hired, and he starts Thursday), it was going to happen like this:

STEP I: Install all-weather SprinTurf between the end of Spring FB drills and the 4 (3) July fireworks show.

Status: Fully funded and nearly complete. They're sewing in the yard markers and direction indicators as we speak. The center U-State logo, which the supplier screwed up, is being replaced. Once it has been, the rubber "fill" will go in. The supplies are stacked in the North parking lot. They'll be painting over the blasphemous endzone blue with true Aggie blue.

STEP II: Pressbox/Elevators/Boxes/Concessions/Rest Rooms on West Side is supposed to begin after the '04 season ends (vs. the NewMags).

Status: Fully funded (through part of proceeds of bond refinance + earthquake retrofit funds from the State). No build-out on the luxury suites/boxes until they're sold, however.

STEP III: North endzone 3-story locker room/coaches' offices/training/weight facility. To commence upon acquisition of funding.

Status: Partially funded (through part of proceeds of bond refinance). The bond is secured by student fees. The bond is about $9 Mill. If the big nickle donors come through timely, this should be completed before the '05 season. Smaller donors are popping for $1K per locker or $25 per square foot of field. Everybody can participate, regardless of financial condition.

STEP IV: South endzone 2-story ticket office, museum, banquet facility, with student "plaza" on SE corner, with expanded/renovated rest rooms anc concessions, together with BBQing facilities on the upper east edge of the stadium.

Status: The last to go in, when the funding is there, it'll all go in as a package.

Total price tag: ca. $27 Mill.

FUTURE STEPS: Expanded seating on the SE, NE and North on top of the to-be-completed locker room building, which should take the seating capacity up to about 35K (presently 30.3K).

Status: Wishy-Hopey upon demonstration of need.

we just built (98% complete) a new athletic center (Fulton Center)with skyboxes etc....

here is a link that describes.... supposedly we are enclosing the south end under the new center for more seating, but not sure how much... other Aggie fans probably know more details.

interesting. thanks, XLGPP.

question for you: the empty space underneath the new boxes, is that for lawn seating? if not, it would seem to me that it would be relatively inexpensive to build stands on that space to expand capacity by a couple thousand.

what's the current capacity with the skyboxes?

We're leaving, but the renovation of Skelly and new North end zone building and other projects to occur over a period of 3-5 years should start after this fall's season (didn't want the added cost and liability of working during hte football season). The size of Skelly probably won't increase much if at all, but the facility as a whole will be much nicer.

yes, that section was grass before the construction.... and it is my understanding that they are suppose to enclose that section now to increase seating.... without enclosing that section and before the Fulton Center, the seating capacity was a little over 30k.
