Terrific Game
I was absolutely amazed at how good CMU looked today. I was real scared of Ball State, but we made them look like they were Buffalo or something.

Gotta give Jones and co. credit. Maybe they have been reading these boards and taking advice to heart, but the offense is getting a whole lot better. It is starting to remind me of the Kelly days. Creativity and all. Lets hope they can keep it going.

LeFevour was absolute money. That is the Feve we are used to. He could not be stopped, ran by everyone, and had pinpoint accuracy.

Hoskins, Bradley, Brown, Anderson, etc. all look dangerous. The offense is just loaded with deadly weapons. They are simply better than other MAC players at those skill positions, and they are lethal.

Now, if the defense can keep it up like this, we will go back to the MAC title game. The offense is dynamite, and when the D plays like this, we are just very hard to beat. BTW, Red Keith is making his draft stock soar every week, he is all over the place out there.

Great game today.

RE: Terrific Game
who knew Davis would stink like that?
Loved the defense and as was said on an earlier thread, the 38 points by BSU were deceiving.
Glad to have Justin Gardner healthy too.

Yes, it did remind me of last year a little watching the game. 02-13-banana

Where was this team against Kansas, Purdue and NDSU? :muttering:

Oh well.... as long as they have figured it out, thats all that matters. 3-0 in the MAC West has them in the drivers seat now.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that they can keep it going. Good job.04-bow

Offense is absolutely getting a lot more creative and using the talents of their MANY weapons. While the coaches deffinately spend a lot of time reading these boards, or more rather having someone read for them and report back I seriously doubt they take any advice. Its more of a see who is saying what so they can go door to door and rough them up kind of thing.

Anybody else see the movie Miracle? Herb Brooks is so tough on the team (by design) that they come together and win for themselves and the country, just to spite him.... BJ = Herb Brooks??? Im starting to feel that way after the teams MAC play.

They say in teaching that it is easier to be too hard on a class and to pull back later then to start out soft and try to fix discipline issues as they show up later (AKA "don't smile till after Christmas Break") maybe this was close to his strategy?

I don't think our offense was ever this lethal under Kelly. We shut our offense down in the 4th qtr. We could of put up 700 yds. WOW! Any comments on Garder's great one handed catch? Brown's hit knocking the fellbacks helmet 3 feet in the air? It sure was hot at BSU. We were in much better condition than them and it showed!

RE: Terrific Game
What a fantastic game, and the pressure on Davis was the key. One of their td's was of the garbage variety, and the other was on special teams. If anyone had told me the defense would hold Ball State's offense to less than 400 yards and 24 points, I would have laughed. This game concerned me, since CMU has traditionally had trouble in Muncie dating back to Deromedi's coaching tenure.

I notice that Davis took off one of his gloves halfway through the 1st Q. I bet there was some sort of problem with that. What kind of QB wears gloves anyways?

Just one game Arro, a definite step in the right direction. I am sure you will find that you are treated much nicer here, then us so called "haters" are treated on the other sites.
We have scary good talent for the MAC, and this team finally played a game that most of us, felt we should be playing. The cupboard was not left bare, and BJ brought in some very talented true freshman to supplement. Hopefully, all involved have learned some valuable lessons, including the coaching staff. I also think that the staff needs to tender some apologizes also to some very good CMU supporters, that have been targeted and harrassed for their opinions. It is something a big man would do, I am sure you know exactly what and who I am talking about as a relative insider, Arro.
The door should swing both ways. 05-mafia

Gardner made an outstanding catch across the middle, but then, so did Anderson, Bradley, Volny, Brooks, Hoskins etc. And Brown's hit was lucky that Card's head didn't stay in the helmet, otherwise he'd still be chasing it! Kelly would have been this lethal if he had had all these guys in the mix. Jones benefited from that, no question. I will give Jones props for listening to the kids, and allowing them to play to their collective skill level. BJ and his staff should be acknowledged for that! However, kick coverage has to improve, by either putting the ball in the end zone (or beyond), or more practice is needed in containment.

I think the defense should be given some credit for how they contained Davis(not saying people havent). They kept him on his toes all day and it didnt really seem like he was ever comfortable back there. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going into army but they have a completely different offense we will see how our D reacts to this new challenge.

Ball state gave us 3 TDs by deciding that they didnt need to cover us. Any offense can score on that. Good thing our QB found the WIDE open person. He deserves credit on that.

Lol.... ur serious? Hell no, i was in the middle of king island's cafe' clapping and screaming when i saw the score. Everyone turned and looked... I just yelled "big win!".

I have so many friends that are tied to this team. I've had season ticket and been coming to games since i was 3 years old. And some of my favorite college memories to date are the Mac Championship game and the bowl game. The last thing is the world i want is for us to lose.

I didnt harp on jones for losing to NDSU. Although that was pathetic, i felt, and anyone with a clue thought that his post-game comments were out of line, and racial.

I hope Jones continues to have sucess and becomes the greatest Coach CMU has ever had.

RE: Terrific Game
Good, I'm glad to hear that. It sounded like you were attempting to take away what this team accomplished in Muncie. We're a lot alike. My parents indoctrinated me at the age of 4 and I have been going to games since 1980.

Some other things to consider: BSU was favored by 12, lost by 20. A 32 point swing.

Our defense, though flawed, held their offense below their average in yards and points, and scored 30 more points than their defense was giving up on average per game. Our defense had been giving up an average of over 500 yds per game, and they just cut that by about 200 yds against a very prolific offense.

If you really look at it, one Ball State touchdown came on special teams, so they were held to 31, and another td came with less than five seconds left before the final gun. Not too shabby on either side of the ball.

Sure, the special teams turns my thinning hair gray, and the defense still needs tightening up, but they're making progress.

The tds we scored on blown coverage are still tds, just like NIU's long one against us was also a blown coverage. Does that make them less than six points each? The designed speedy tempo that LeFevour was talking about in the postgame is supposed to keep the defense on their heels, and that's exactly what it did. It isn't CMU's fault that Hoke didn't have his kids ready, just like it isn't NDSU's fault that Jones didn't have his team ready a couple of weeks ago. Hoke was never able to reel his kids in at halftime, and CMU just put the game out of reach.

The best thing about this game to me was seeing all the newer kids make contributions. Antrione Archer, Carl Volny, JJ Watt(horray...1st catch! Throw to him MORE) and Matt Berning.

RE: Terrific Game
Great Win Saturday. Now that’s the Chippewas I remember and knew before the start of the season began. I’ve been pretty upset lately with BJ, and like I’ve said all along, I will give credit where credit is due. BJ had the team ready to play Saturday and holy sh__…maybe he does read these boards, because all we’ve been saying is let’s open up the playbook and let the “Feve” air it out. Guys…there is no excuses (we’re young, banged up, etc.)…bull sh__…we are LOADED with talent and what you saw Saturday against a good Ball State team was what I knew we were capable of doing. Good job BJ…let’s continue to use our strengths because if we have a shed full of weapons…why show up to the fight with a swiss army knife? Damn it…we have a King Kong at QB…so why not let him run lose and terrorize defenses?

Wow…LeFevour stepped up big time, as there was no stopping him. He was deathly accurate on Saturday and his performance was simply amazing. A few good things I saw:
- OL, great blocking all day, LeFevour could have finished a puzzle and still complete a pass, with as much time they gave him.

- WR’s…wow…Antonio Brown. This is our Reggie Bush, guys…he is really, really good and he’s the type of player who is not just good here, but he would be just as productive at a USC, LSU, etc. We’re very fortunate to have him. Gardner had an awesome catch, Anderson looked very god out there. He’s got NFL type size…let’s use it.

- RB’s…Hoskins looked pretty good out there especially after hurdled the defender. Archer had a few nice runs. I like Archer, he’s not flashy, but he’s productive and dependable. He gets north and south in a hurry. Volny showed some good things, I’m a big fan of Volny and again…we are loaded with talent here too.

- Defense, overall we did a pretty good job all day (14 of the 38 points came in the 4th quarter when we had a nice lead and our 2nd and 3rd stringers were in). Compared to how we’ve been playing recently, this is a HUGE improvement. They were flying around and hitting people out there, like they wanted to hurt them. That was very evident. This defense hit some people out there and can anyone say, Ike “Ouch” Brown? Holly sh__…he was taking peoples heads off out there. D-line was finally getting some pressure, LB’s looked pretty productive out there as well as the DB’s.

I celebrated the win, however our season is far from over. We still have 2 crucial in-state rivalry games against wmu and emu and it doesn’t matter how good or bad the records are, it’s a rivalry game and anything can happen. Army is a good team and would beat allot of MAC teams…so from here on out, no one can be taken lightly and every game needs to be a Championship game.

Amen. The staff was trying to fit our players into their system. It should of been vice versa, our players should dictate your system.

When we had JS we ran a lot, when Danny stepped in we went up top. Thats why BK is a big time coach. Hopefully jones has been learning on the job and we finish strong. I cant wait for K/S this weekend.

Hopefully we can keep their WRs in front of us and not give up any long gains. Its good to see Ike show up for the season. He really laid the wood on some people. 04-chairshot04-chairshot04-chairshot

Exactly! And we were absolutely correct in calling for Jones' head! Those three games were horribly managed on and off the field! I don't buy any of that crap from those lemmings on the other board for calling us out regarding Jones! He deserved and got the criticism! Listening to the players, and making the system fit them, instead of vice versa, was exactly what needed to happen. The coaching staff should be commended! But, I don't ever want to see that WV spread again. Tighten up that defense and kick coverage---and let Feve & Co. light up that phucking scorebard!!!!04-rock

is that what happened, did the players go to Jones and tell him to open up the offense or what happened?? I mean it was a 180 swing from Kansas, NDSU, and Purdue. OR did Jones pull the trigger himself?
Whatever it was at BSU they had a swagger back on offense, and lefevour was smiling a lot on those close ups, very nice to see!02-13-banana
