Germantown firings
What do ya'll think about the firings at the GPAC? Seems like PC to me. I suppose those knots could have been taken as a noose. But there hasn't been a lynching in TN for more than 60 years. How long do people have to lean on something before letting it go? I think Germantown over-reacted.

I'll agree with that. Unless there was some talking going on or something we don't know about, but if it was just ropes, then someone was a little too sensitive.

If it were just ropes with a loop at the end how can anyone claim hostile work environment? I could see a point if there were racial comments made or various pictures hung up of past lynchings but this seems to be a knee jerk reaction by the management based on what I've read in the paper.

I agree totally...nooses have been used for many hundreds of years the world over for various purposes other than just hanging people...variations used for fishing and boating purposes come immediately to mind here.

Interestingly enough, the classic Hangman's Noose is typified by having 13 loops or coils...the pictures in the CA this morning illustrated two nooses with only 5 or so coils each, so the legal arguments in this case could get VERY interesting VERY quickly.

GPAC Nooses

I would also think that the fired employees may have some grounds for legal recourse against the City of Germantown over this type of rash job termination...unless you have overwhelming evidence to the contrary, immediately terminating employees based on one person's concern that they're being harassed is irresponsible.

Lastly, I think Carol Hinely is a wimp for backing down on her stance from the day before...she caved in to the political correctness that seems to be rampant these days.

my favorite part is when they say that "absence of knowledge is no defense of a crime". basically, not knowing you are a racist, makes you a racist. this whole story is ridiculous.

Once the City of G'town is forced to hire an attorney to handle the slam-dunk cases against them, they will truly find out how stupidly they handled these job terminations.

I thought all cities already have city attorneys hired for legal consultation and for legal representation in court.

Most smaller cities and towns don't have full-time legal representation due to budget constraints.

I wonder if, in the event this does happen, will the ones who fired will be fired. After all, they didn't know their decision to fire these people would be wrong, but that's no defense.

Interesting thoughts...all I know is that the way this whole thing was handled is that a mountain range will evolve from a molehill once all the dust finally settles.
