I think UC Davis and Sacramento State would be the best bets for future WAC schools. They are fairly close to each other and had a historical rivalry for a long time. Those two schools, along with Fresno State and San Jose State, would give the WAC a nice Central California nucleus. Such an arrangement would work pretty well for WAC geography and recruiting.

Due to Hawaii being in the league, I think the WAC is a conference that would actually make sense with 11 members. But I'm not sold on the ability of Portland State, Northern Arizona, or any other Big Sky teams not named Montana and Montana State to move up to Division I-A. I'd probably put Cal Poly SLO third on the list behind UC Davis and Sacramento State.

I'd be happy to have Davis, Sac State, San Diego State or any combination of the thee but would like to see the league back to an even number. No offense to La Tech but they are the oddball in the mix.

I'm sorry but that would be horrible. Why would you want to add schools from the same area such as UC Davis and Sac State? I say pick one only, we don't need two schools from the same area just because we needed to expand. Which ever schools has the best potential should get pick not just because of close proximics.

Having a strong nucleus of four huge state schools in an area like Central California would only be a boon to the WAC. The rivalries between the quartet would only get fiercer and fiercer which, in turn, would help shape the national image of the WAC.

The WAC schools from other states would gain two games in California each season. This would help those schools recruit more student athletes from California. The result of that would be a rise in the talent levels of schools all around the league.

As much as I seriously despise the ACC, they certainly don't think it's horrible that four of their schools are in North Carolina. In fact, the Tobacco Road rivalries are the stuff of legend all around the nation. It's the first thought when anyone says ACC.
