New Day Children's Theater
NEW DAY CHILDREN'S THEATRE NARRATIVE THEATRE TROUPE
This group will consist of 8 students that will learn to perform in an improvisational style using scripts and narrative story pieces. They will take what they create and perform for groups in the community.

Auditions are open to any student age 13-18 that is looking for a more intensive theatre learning experience. If selected for the troupe-classes will meet on Mondays/Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30 at CUMC Santuary on the Square From September 13th – November 15th Performance Dates TBA
This class will focus on teaching students to become a children’s
improvisational theatre troupe based on children’s literature, fables,
rhythms, and songs. The troupe will learn what it takes to perform for young people of all ages leaving in their wake a smile and a warm
message. Using their own bodies and additional audience members, they create a fantastical world, where they take children on a magical journey they will never forget.
Director: Henry A. McDaniel III -- a local actor, director, and fight
choreographer with a BA in theatre and M.S.E. in education from
Harding University. He studied and performed physical theatre with companies in Florence and Arezzo, Italy and the United States. While in graduate school for directing at the University of Memphis, Henry won an Ostrander for his role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night. His most recent role was as Freddy Henry Higgins in Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile.
Cost: $275 (Payment--We realize participation in this class/Troupe is more costly that other classes. We know you will find that it will be
well worth the investment for the students that want to really work
hard on their acting and this is a whole new style to learn. We have
broken down payment in to 3 --- 1st payment due Monday, September 10th of $100, 2nd Payment Oct 1st of $100, and 3rd Payment Nov 5th of $75.)

Children will explore the world of drama through movement, language, and playmaking activities. They will use their imagination to create and express the thoughts and feelings of different characters in a variety of situations. Vocalization, problem-solving, and concentration are just a few of the skills they will develop in this developmentally appropriate and playful class.
Director: Teil Wilcox has a wonderfully colorful pallet of theatrical
experiences ranging from stage performance to music business. Her true passion however, will always be introducing young thespians to the healing art of creativity.

Students will explore scenes through the thoughts, feelings, and actions of the characters. They will work with more detail on individual character development and movement.
Director: Lydia Hart grew up in children’s theatre and has a degree in
Elementary Education from the University of Memphis. She directed Summer Drama Camp for New Day in 2006 and is currently starring in Thoroughly Modern Millie at Theatre Memphis. She is very exciting to be returning to New Day and being able to work with children again.
