RE: Expectaions.
4 Losses in conference would be an unbelievable 3rd year in Division I. I think it is dangerous though to judge on wins and losses alone right now for our program. We might take huge steps again this year as a program, but it might only show up in a few more wins. This year is going to be a good year for our side of the conference. To be honest, the south might be better than the north.

Jacksonville, Mercer, and Kennesaw are probably 3 of the top 5 teams in the conference this year. North Florida will be better than USC-Upstate, and it wouldnt surprise me to see Florida Gulf Coast be 2008's version of Kennesaw State.

After thinking about the teams this year this is kind of how I see the year playing out in tiers of teams.

Tier One (no particular order):
ETSU
Lipscomb
Kennesaw
Mercer
Jacksonville

Tier Two (no particular order):
Campbell
Stetson
Belmont
Gardner Webb

Tier Three:
Florida Gulf Coast

Tier Four:
North Florida
USC-Upstate

It is going to be a dog fight in both divisions. Mercer, Jacksonville, Kennesaw, and Stetson are probably the 4 teams in conference that will have the most improvement from last year to this year. All had very young teams last year, and all were close to being top teams last year. Belmont will be down a good bit, and Lipscomb down just a little bit. I think ETSU will be just as good as last year.

I think a record of 10-6 would be a great finish for this year's team. I think we could finish as high as 12-4 or 13-3, but we could also just as easily finish 8-8. 10-6 would be good for top 5 in the conference, and would be a great improvement as we inch closer to NCAA tournament eligibility.

RE: Expectaions.
Anything below .500 is an absolute failure. That represents we're going backwards. Maybe unacceptable would be too harsh of a term but I'm ready to see what these guys can do. It'd be easier to pull attendance to games, it'd be more enjoyable to watch, it'd give more opportunities to shine against harder OOC teams, it'd work wonders for our school. We just don't have a program that puts us on the map with the student body. If we want to be successful when we're off probation, we're going to have to start demanding Tier 1 level play with favorable outcomes and winning seasons. There shouldn't be a reason we don't have a winning season from now on in this league. The schools we're going up against have much smaller pulls. Lipscomb has 2600+/- students. A lot have under 5000. There's no reason a 20,000+ school should be losing to those teams just based on enrollment and cash flow.

I agree that anything sub .500 would be a step backwards. Our reasonable goal should be a winning record in conference (10-6)...anything more than that would be gravy.

Completely agree. I posted a nearly identical message near the top of the thread. Shoot for 6 losses or fewer. Its only our third year in D1, so keep making strides forward.

I just cant wait to see our PG play... it will be nice not to have 8 freshmen for once! I think Keith is going to be a very good player this year as well as John Mike Nickerson. Wooten and Stegall should have amazing seasons as seniors. I also believe J.D. Pollock will add to our defense as I have heard great things about him.

the player playing this year with the most upside is no doubt Whipple. Dont be surprised to see him breakout.

I would love to see Whipple come out of the shell he was playing in last year. There were less than a handful of times (in the few minutes he played) he showed his true ability according what has been said about him on here.
