NE Shelby County water
(August 16, 2007) – A problem last night at MLGW’s Shaw Water Pumping Stationserving the Cordova, Arlington, Lakeland and unincorporated areas of Shelby County resulted in discolored water for many of these customers. The discoloration is caused by iron and does not pose a health hazard. These customers may also be experiencing low pressure.
MLGW is encouraging customers to avoid unnecessary water use until the issue is resolved. The water may have a metallic taste and could stain white clothing if it is used for washing clothes. Customers are advised to avoid washing clothes, dishes and automobiles until the water is clear. MLGW hopes to resolve the issue in the next 12

RE: NE Shelby County water
Back in the 70's did some work on the water system in a town in eastern AR, which shall remain nameless. Had a real high iron content like ours. We were in a meeting at the water plant with the mayor, the chief operator, and the chairman of the water utility. The chairman was also plant manager at a vegetable processing plant that used more than twice as much water as the town. The operator's assistant came flying in in the middle of the meeting to tell us a major fubar had occurred. They had some how backwashed the plant filters into the water system instead of flushing into the adjacent creek. The mayor was frantic. He just knew the town was going to have to pay for the plant's vegetable production. The plant manager made a call and said not to worry, they were processing pinto beans and no one would notice.
