103 Degrees in The Ville Today!
It was 103 degrees in The Ville today. I don't know what the heat index brought that up to, but how do the guys practice in that? It seems very very dangerous.

UC has been battling the same thing... 130 on the FieldTurf. They've been going through ice by the truckload, and set up a larger version of a "baby pool" (holds about 25 players at a time). Frequent breaks are a must.

Digressing a little, the offseason training program for UC has done some amazing things. Barely anyone has left practice early. It's one of the main reasons I'm very optimistic on the team's prospects this season.

Strangely enough, even though we've had some of the hottest days in many years, and are even setting records for highs for a certain date, I just don't think the humidity has been as bad.

I mean, I can remember days in Louisville where it was only 85 degrees, but the humidity was sky high and gave you that stuffy, sweaty, miserable feeling 2 minutes after you walked outside.

It only got up to 99° in Knoxville yesterday. It's supposed to be around 100° today. 03-melodramatic

That ties the record for both days - if today's forecast is accurate. :billgates:

The high the last eight days in Memphis has been...

100 (9th)
102 (10th)
101 (11th)
103 (12th)
106 (13th)
103 (14th)
106 (yesterday)
104 (today)

There have been at least eight heat related fatalities reported since then. It's been brutal. We haven't had a drop of rain. I've been running my sprinklers three times a day and my poor grass is still dying. A cool front is coming in and the high tomorrow is supposed to drop to 99.

Yeah it is warm out. I find myself working on a lot more projects in the basement than the attic these days. :)

I'm just glad I'm not a friend of mine. He's a welder, and he says it's been over 140° in his shop lately. That's just too hot.

What time are you watering your grass?

I feel too guilty to water grass. It has been so dry around here, that I don't want to waste water, not that your lawn is a waste. I just feel funny about using my water that way, even though I don't pay for it. I haven't had green grass all summer, why start now? I'm not a tree hugger or anything, but I do believe in conservation.

It's finally cool enough out now that my kids can go out and play. The only problem now is that target practice is going on with the Abrams and the kids think it's thunder and want to come back in.

The timer on the sprinkler system waters it daily at 6:15 AM or so. I've been running again after it gets dark at night.

I have hugged a tree. But it was either that, or continue my fall down the cliff. 04-jawdrop
