First Baseman/Pitcher Joins Herd Via Winters HS
Aug. 10, 2007
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head baseball coach Jeff Waggoner announced today the signing of first baseman/pitcher Brock Neil to a National Letter of Intent. Neil will compete as a freshman for the Thundering Herd in 2008.
Neil is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound talent from Winters, Calif. He played prep baseball at Winters High School, where he led the school to a sectional championship while being named to the all-tournament team. He was also named to the High School Optimist All-Star Team.
"With our team being very right-handed in the batter's box, Brock will be a great addition to our lineup hitting left-handed with power," Waggoner said. "He will definitely fill a void at first base with the graduation of Brit Vincent and Brendan Murphy.
"Brock has the ability to make an immediate impact in the middle of the order as a freshman."
Neil recently competed in the Joe Dimaggio Summer League, leading the Tri-County Gamblers to a regional title. In the league's five-day league championship series, Neil hit over .600 en route to a runner-up finish and a spot on the all-tournament team. He also enjoyed a brief stint in a wooden bat league for the San Jose Seals.
Neil also lettered in basketball and football at Winters HS.
