Here's an article on Bearcat Insider that sheds a bit of light on the subject:

http://cincinnati.scout.com/2/667577.html

It goes into detail as to how Tony Pike is progressing.

And one from the Enquirer:

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...2/1064/SPT

It discusses the much-anticipated Ben Mauk. Both these guys are mounting a strong challenge to Grutza's starting job. My feeling is that Mauk seems to be icing his sore arm down excessively, and sitting out reps now and then. I have the impression his injury will hold him back. It is a wide open competition - as many as four QB have a shot - and it appears whoever wins the job will deserve it.

Yep-he's accurate and is a fast scrambler-not a huge arm though. Both our QB's have Arena League talent (which is iinfinitely better than what we had last year).

I'm happy with Lorenzen and hope he can deliver. Our schedule better ensure a fast start, though.

I get the feeling that Mauk has been icing his arm alot though because the arm hasn't seen a lot of football action since the surgery. Once it gets used to football action and, hopefully, isn't as sore as usual, Mauk will be the starter. If Mauk can step in as the starter UC's offense will be explosive and dynamic.

I have nothing to back it up but my gut feelling is when it comes to crunch time Grutza will be the starter. He has the most experience.

Tyler Lorenzen will start for UCONN. I like Dennis Brown, so the JUCO All Star must be pretty good. I think our OL is much improved this year also. Therefore, the QB play should be much improved. We still have Donald Brown, one of the top RBs in the league.

I think we gonna surprise someone this year. The main reason is our offensive line returns everyone and we are older and stronger.
