Alton Brown's "Feasting On Asphalt" - in Memphis
http://www.altonbrown.com/adventure/tarmac03.html

I'm a big Alton Brown fan, and this is a cool show on the Food Network that he's done - last year they travelled cross-country; this year they're traveling up the Mississippi River and exploring all the different food found along the way.

This Saturday night they'll show the episode where they roll into Memphis, and hit the Pink Palace to see the Piggly Wiggly exhibit, Interstate BBQ, Wiles-Smith drugstore for shakes, and Melanie's Soul Food.

I don't know, but I want some of it, for sure!

My husband would LOVE to work for his production company, but I told him he might be a LITTLE too high-strung to really be an enjoyable employer.

We're going to Nashville on Saturday to see him...he's doing a cooking demonstration/presentation at the Opryland Hotel as part of their summerfest series, & a media friend pulled some strings for us.

If I wind up being close enough to take decent pics, I'll post 'em on this thread when we get back.

I like his show also but damn I get tired of people asking me if I am him. I am stopped no less than 5 times a week with people asking either if I am Alton Brown or if I am a close relative. This morning at my oldest son's school I was asked three times. ARGH!

Just a few weeks ago I was damn close to playing along. While I was at Kroger feeling up avocados for some guacamole (just as Alton showed on his show) a couple of girls in their early 20s started excitingly whispering to each other and then burst out with, "Aren't you that guy on TV. We love your show"
They were not hard on the eyes by any means and they were very giddy to meet Alton but I had to tell the truth. Damn parents that raised me to not lie. lol

You oughta' consider converting to Catholicism...you can commit any sin you want and wipe it away with that good 'ole confession every Sunday morning, baby!

well, we did, in fact, get to meet AB saturday at the opryland hotel!

he was absolutely hilarious during his demo....it was all focused on candy/sugar. the pic of him with the whisk is "cotton candy" that he made, and strung between the arms of a chair, then rolled it up in his hand to give to an audience member. he also made marshmallows, and vanilla ice cream with nothing less than 2 quarts of liquid nitrogen.

AB's the bomb!

I used his turkey recipe last Thanksgiving...everyone at the table said it was BY FAR the best turkey they ever had.

All of his shows are totally crazy...and his color commentary on Iron Chef America is out of this world!

That is the same Turkey Roasting recipe I use every thanksgiving. For those of you that haven't used it. Go to Foodtv.com, check out his show and search for "romancing the bird". You will not be dissappointed.
