...at least in ECU's situation w/ SU, we lined up replacement games for them (Wake Forest) instead of leaving them high and dry.....so, they got paid the buyout amount - and they got replacement games.....no harm, no foul.....
Actually the game that got Syracuse out of that dilemma WAS NOT the Wake Forest game it was that game. Syracuse's then-AD Jake Crouthamel called up Cincinnati's then-AD Bob Goin desperately looking for a replacement game. Bob Goin and Jake Crouthamel then worked out a plan, since going into the season Cincinnati was set to play Top 25 Purdue and Syracuse playing no one we gave Syracuse the Purdue game and then went to the Carrier Dome to play the Orange. That is what fixed Syracuse's problem.

Looking at the numbers, you can only conclude that The BEast's OOC SOS rankings are comparable to other conferences - and a lot better than a good many.

ECU's AD has told me personally that at the time we bought out the game, we scrambled in good faith and found not one, but 2 games for SU to replace our game with - with Wake Forest (home and away)......there was no "desperation" involved on anyone's part......this is an urban legend that has gotten twisted and contorted WAYYYYYY out of reality.....
...and matter of fact, we also had Ohio U. lined up as a "gimmie" replacement game for SU as well.....but after the Wake Forest deal was done, Ohio U. wasn't needed.....
Bottom line is that a contract clause was legally exercised, and a good faith effort was made (when it didn't have to be) to smooth over any hard feelings (!?) that were felt after the fact....and all is well now, without question......
