Thoughts from Section 110, Row 47
The Good:
- Pre-game was incredible. Electric even. Gave me goosebumps and I couldn't sit down.
--- The pre-game "History of GT Football" video set to "Zombie Nation" on the Jumbotron was nice, especially when the whole stadium bobs up and down and sings with it.
--- The VERY LOW flyby of the FA-18 Hornet was great. He had afterburners on... could feel the heat even from the lower level. He angled up for maximum noise too. He couldn't have been more than 15 stories up from the top of the stadium. Nice touch putting a video of him in the cockpit on the jumbotron too.
--- Incredible Nat'l Anthem. Who sang that??
- New Georgia Tech sign in the South Endzone is a nice touch
- Crowd support was great. Club seats were packed. I may have sat for 10 mins the whole game. The Domers may have had 9,000-10,000 there. Even the upper north had alot of Tech fans. LOUD too. Stadium was shaking even in the lower level... I imagine it was much worse up top.
- The new secondary seems to be up to the job.
- Patrick Nix looked good first half. Even when Tech didn't score, they moved the ball well. He got the ball to #21 alot as well.
- All the Domers outside BDS@HGF with no tickets.
- Meeting a couple of people from the boards, as well as some recruits
- Jacket Alley was loud and packed

The Bad:
- Playing not-to-lose instead of to-win. The "I give up" run near the end of the first half was lame. THROW THE BALL TO CALVIN IN THE ENDZONE!!!
- Nobody in a gold jersey could tackle #3... it was baffling. I dunno if he's that strong or shifty, or what.
- Domers were classless, chanting during the alma mater and other such childish acts.
- The offense's inability to make adjustments. There also seems to be a mortal fearfor Reggie to do a number of things that could result in mistakes. That fear may be well founded for the most part, but certainly something could have been done by now, 4 years later?

The Ugly:
- Big 10 refs ... they must co-op train with the ACC refs
- Reggie's passes compared to T.B.'s in warmups. Reggie lofts the ball up there and lets gravity place it. TB throws javalins man.

Grading Out:
Defense: A-
The last series before the half really really hurt. Also, there were about 50 bajillion slants and bubble screens thrown, and they were on the whole successful. I kept waiting for one to be a pick 6 ... but it never happened.

Offense: D
You can't do better than a C+ when one half is total garbage. The chicken-little 3rd down run to take 3 seals the deal on the lower grade. Jury is out still on whether this unit will turn the corner this year.... Nix gets extra time to be broken in as a play caller and grow a pair.

Special Teams: C-
Field goal unit seems good ... punting is ok for the most part. Kickoff/Punt returns are still just plain bad... as are kickoff/punt coverage. How long has it been since Tech took a kickoff to the house? Last I can recall is vs BC at home in '98 or '99.

Fan Support: A+
Best I've ever seen it, and many long time season holders think it may have been the best as well. Record attendance, and very few Domers. Can't forsee it being much better than it was.

I agree with you on most of these even know I was not able to attend in person. I think a lot of the good things such as the crowd were seen by the nation.

I dont' understand why Tech seemed to have decent playcalls in the first half, but the second half looked like a page out of last years UGA game. Every single play was meant to be safe and not turn the ball over. When it was 3rd and short, everyone including the drunks sitting at the bar next to me knew what was comming.

If a ref throws a flag, he either needs to tell the umpire to announce the penalty, or wave the flag off. But some how, ND found a way around that. The play clock hits 0 on 4th and inches, Quinn calls a timeout 2 seconds later, and they get away with it. If that had been a 5 yard penalty, we get the ball back. Not saying we would have won, but that's just another thing besides the helmet-to-helmet and the facemask by Smarjathug.
