Is Jackie Sherrill a prophet?
When the SEC added Arkansas and South Carolina in the early 1990's Jackie Sherrill was interviewed on a Memphis radio station. He predicted 15 years ago that college football would some day end up with six to eight "super conferences" consisting of 12 to 14 members each.

I don't think he is a prophet, but he does like to cut the balls off of bulls!

I don't know how he can be a prophet when he said 6 to 8 "super conferences" with 12 to 14 teams and there are only 3 conference with 12 member, and they have no plans of going past that. And if Ohio State adds a school it would only make 4 conferences.

In the early 90's...the main conferences were:

Pac-10
Big 10
SWC
Big 8
SEC
ACC
and the new Big East

When the SEC jumped to 12...that's when the SWC/Big 8 schools started to talk...and they obviously eventually split in '97-'98.

Not sure the man was a prophet when at the time there was mainly 7 big conferences...5 of them with 9 plus teams that were looking to expand or merge to form a bigger/better one.

Once the SEC made the original move...the rest was set in motion...and all the other conferences have followed (all except the Pac 10).
