RE: warm ups
And if we had Smith or Twilley on our team that first year instead of Golden we dont win 2 conference games. Say what you want about Golden's second year (which he had a tough year) ... but he carried us to a respectable conference record our first. We might not have even won a single conference game and our recuiting and future would have suffered greatly without that decent first season in conference.

I really don't give a damn about your speculation, just quit trying to pawn him off on us. We don't want him and are quite glad we never had him.

That's just plain rude, Nick. Go back to Georgia and find some manners. There should be plenty lying around, since no one seems to have any.

I just found some growing outside and I stomped on them cause this is the smack talk board... Gold can (and does) stick up for himself, doesn't need ya to come along like it's a freakin nursing home.

Not to mention this was a harmless post about warm-ups and the only general consensus we could come up with is that teams should honor the national anthem.

This sounds like when Clinton said: "That depends on what the definition of IS ...is..."

A couple of things, if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen...
Play up that non-conference stat all you want, I WATCHED THE TEAM PLAY AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of those games, and saw more of it through Media 100, Final Cut Pro and even iMovie than I'll ever care to remember. Bottom line being in the A-Sun gave us 6-8 more wins that first year in the conference than what we would have had in the A-Sun.

BucLover, you do any shows for the ASun for TV or net?

I'm not getting in the ASun/SoCon pissing contest cause I admittedly don't know about the SoCon, but I wouldn't doubt coming to the ASun you'd be a little step up over the bottom feeders of the ASun. There may also be more bottom feeders in the ASun than the SoCon but I don't know that for sure.

RE: warm ups
I used to dabble a little bit in television in and around the ETSU community, I've since moved away from the Tri-Cities but do have some great memories of working in around the network. I never have been employed by the Atlantic Sun Conference in any way, shape or form, but I would be remiss if I didn't say I haven't seen every team through a viewfinder. The Southern had 12 teams with us in it, and in basketball typically Elon, Western Carolina, and The Citadel sucked. Appalachian was also down during that time BUT, I would say that the WCU teams with Sacramento Kings forward Kevin Martin would have DOMINATED the A-Sun, they finished with a losing record in the SoCon. Granted, the A-Sun has shown some signs of a pulse, but the midpack SoCon teams (UT-C especially with their little midget shooting guard) would be at or near the top in this conference.

I've always compared Lipscomb to a good WCU team and Belmont is exactly like what the good Citadel teams were.

KB,

Clinton references aside... Speculating, as in making predictions about a possible future, is indeed quite a different thing from the supposition of a mythical past.

Believe me when I say I rarely, if ever was drinking the ETSU kool-aid in those days. I think it's funny that the ETSU fans are arguing about how much we SUCKED and you guys are trying to tell us we were better than a crappy team.
Let me simplify this another way, by our expectations, based on various eras and the amount of banners hanging in the dome, we SUCKED. Our defense that first year in the A-Sun was TERRIBLE, and Tim was still trying to be Alan Iverson. We didn't have anything that resembled a consistent inside scorer, we had Dillion Sneed and Ben Rhoda, whom we've established Ronnell Wooten still wets his pants at the very mention of those two names. Pure and simple, that was not a good basketball team, last season, we were pretty good, this season, we should be even better.

Lover... I am not saying they were great... and I think you lost track of the point of my argument... only comparing two seasons... I am sure you have had better teams then the first A-SUN team but the fact is as Goldfinger admits.. the team came together and played better in the 2005-2006 season as opposed to the 2004-05 season... and the improvement was clear as the non-conference facts explain. However, as you know, you are free to believe whatever you want! I just thought it would be interesting to dig some stuff up in order to see how the ETSU fans would respond to true stats.

RE: warm ups
Paper statistics are very misleading. This team suffered from the same things that caused them to have such a bad record the year before, i.e the dreaded 1-3-1 zone defense, Timmy's selfishness, etc... They really weren't a better team, it was still 11 guys and Smith, who never quite understood that Pigram and Strong could both score. They may not have lost by as many points, but the same stupid things that plagued them the year before, plagued them that season. The crappy defense was still a problem until FINALLY Bartow started playing man, and pressing. That started in late December, and the team finally turned the corner until the A-Sun championship, when the froze up and laid an egg.

That is about enough of that. Rhoda came at Wooten to try and entice him into a fight, and Wooten was man enough and smart enough to not fall into Rhoda's baiting. Sneed was huge, but he didnt play dirty (never really had any problem with him..thought he played hard)...Rhoda was a dirty dirty player. Wooten should have never been ejected from that game. I love the revisionist history by ETSU fans. Wooten looked really intimidated being at ETSU last year when he made Sportcenter's top 10 plays dunking on your entire team....You could see the FEAR in his eyes as he rose up, put his jock in your player's face and slammed it home. :ncaabbs: So don't give me this junk about Wooten being afraid of Rhoda or ETSU. If he wasnt involved in a basketball game he would have laid Rhoda out...maybe he should have since he got ejected from the game anyway.

RE: warm ups
Revisionist history? Balderdash! Any dunk you are referring to came prior to the fight that WOOTEN started with both Sneed and Rhoda. I was there, just a few feet away from the court. Wooten was the only person to receive a technical fowl in his skirmish with Sneed. Wootens second technical was against Rhoda. As for Rhoda's part, his technical was acquired for retaliation.

That is one of the most misinformed statements I have ever seen on this message board. Are you freaking serious? He didnt EVER play dirty. If you think Rhoda was a dirty player, you obviously havent seen too much basketball.
