If the soccer stadium isn't up- where do they play?
Seriously- it appears the soccer stadium is going WAAAAY behind schedule.

And the softball field- that was supposed to start in April. Has groundbreaking started on that yet?

So if the soccer stadium isn't up, where would ETSU play? Would ETSU play at a half-constructed stadium? Would they move their games to a high school venue, or perhaps get use the facility at another college?

The thing about this was a lot of people asked about the soccer stadium as a dual-use facility that would also house football. Which makes a lot of sense.

But the soccer people (who had been here for- what- a month?) complained and said we'd have to spend $15 million on a new football stadium because we dare not mess up the soccer pitch!

Now, again, if you're an AD or a president who want football to return- you tell the soccer people they are just going to have to live with that or that they will play on field turf.

Just think- if ETSU football could play there- the money to build it would be more easily raised.

Furthermore, there is a school of thought that the sustaining revenues to keep football going could be found in alternate ways to raising student fees.

Regardless, when is that thing supposed to be finished? Doesn't the season start in about a month?

The field is ready for play... I would suggest for the 50 soccer fans that they bring a chair if they don't want to sit on the dirt. Also, anyone with a scoreboard would be useful too. Oh and Pitt, since you were so good at the Howard Dean screamoff, they might not have a P.A. system in place, you could work for Dave!

Sorry but I really dont care. Maybe they should go play on the moon. Or better yet...in a country that cares about soccer.

Ah come on Fan1, you KNOW you like the women's soccer team.
As for the men, maybe in three years we could hire David Beckham as an assistant coach.

Here we have athletic dept. incompetence again- and here we have the ETSU response-

"Ho, hum. Let's TALK ABOUT MISTER JENNINGS!!!!"

The sad thing is even if Jennings wasn't coming back in an ancillary capacity that would be the response.

I don't know about ETSU's response but I can understand ETSU's fans response. I don't give a rat's ass about soccer so I would much rather talk about Jennings. I also would bet that a Jennings apearance would outdraw an ETSU soccer game, by a wide margin.

RE: If the soccer stadium isn't up- where do they play?
That's a myopic view.

Here's what I'm saying.

If they are going to ask their soccer teams to play in a half-built facility- that is an embarassment. Doesn't matter if the facility is for soccer, softball (wasn't that field supposed to begin construction in April? David?), or football.

And certainly you don't believe the reason the field is half constructed is just "Oh, it's only soccer and who cares- they must be putting all their emphasis in basketball- FINAL FOUR HERE WE COME!"

I almost get the feeling there's been an elitist movement that says "Football is a SAVAGE game and if we embrace SOCCER then we will be multicultural. Why- soccer is the BEAUTIFUL GAME- FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL REGION- and therefore so much more a cultural compliment to the Tri-Cities than American football would be!

"And since the people of Appalachia all are rednecks anyway, this will be a step in diversifying them and getting them away from the Cross Burnings and Snake Handlings and in touch with the rest of the world!"

Trust me- I know how academic elites think- and it's very much in tune with the above two paragraphs.

So if they can't get this field done- guys- they won't get anything done.

But hey- maybe ETSU can win the A-Sun Men's Basketball Tournament!

Both this year- and the year 2050!

Somehow I believe ETSU athletic administration WOULD spend untold millions on luring in David Beckham before they would try to improve their lot out of the A-Sun.

Maybe they could even get the Spice Girls reunion tour to play the SGA Homecoming concert! I can see it now, to hell with Britney Fox, we've got Posh, Scary, Ginger, and Baby Spice! Truly, ETSU could have everything, and we'd have soccer to thank for it!

I'm glad you mentioned that, Lover.

Because I've been looking at this Spice Girls reunion thing- and I have to ask you . . .

Since when did Sporty become the Hot One?

I've always been a fan of Scary Spice, but to be honest I think Ginger should get that title. It could work! I'm all for it.
