I hope more show up for UC-UofL than the last time. In 2005 the attendance was 21086. It was a Saturday game that started at noon.

I was surprised at the small attendance (by UofL standards) from UofL for that one.

By contrast WVU at UC drew 25893 that year.

P.S. - The responsibility for a good attendance lies with UC - not with UofL. I'm just saying I was surprised by the UofL turnout for the last game at UC.

Exactly. A lot of people thought UL would bring a ton of folks, but they didn't. And it was a gorgeous day. Very strange.

More confirmation that a BE network is not in the works

Pitt's Wannstedt declines comment on Fields

By Kevin Gorman
TRIBUNE-REVIEW

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt declined comment on the status of sophomore safety Elijah Fields of Duquesne, who was suspended last spring and has dealt with off-field issues that could jeopardize his season.
"He's got to finish out his summer," Wannstedt said, "but he's doing everything he's supposed to on and off the field."

• Wannstedt said redshirt freshman linebacker Greg Webster (Woodland Hills), who has Crohn's disease, has not been cleared "to do anything full speed, footballwise."

• Incoming freshman Kyle Hubbard of Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward is contemplating leaving the Panthers to play basketball at Cleveland State.
"If he wants to go play basketball, we will definitely release him," Wannstedt said.

• Wannstedt announced that redshirt freshman offensive lineman Kevin Hughes is leaving the team to concentrate on academics, while redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Derrell Jones has decided to transfer.

• Don't look for the creation of a Big East Network akin to what the Big Ten is doing with its television rights, commissioner Mike Tranghese said, because of the difference in media markets between the conferences.

"We're in a Northeast marketplace. You go to New York and you have the Giants, Yankees, Nets, Islanders and Knicks," Tranghese said. "With all due respect, you don't have that problem in Bloomington, Ind. ... It's just a different market. Our network is ESPN. It's managed and operated by ESPN, but it's serving our purpose."

ESPN can be the BEast sports network. It does ok, but we need more saturation. They can create another channel just for us if they like.

They won't really have to create another channel. If the other BCS conferences follow the B10, then ESPNU basically becomes the BE network.

Cheers,
Neil

I'd be glad to see ESPN warming up to BE in such a fashion - quite a turnaround, a mere three years after attempting to open up our mouths just so they could sh!t down our collective throats.
