July 18 article says that Syracuse might be giving it a second look.

Keep in mind that I have yet to see an article with any quotes from Daryl Gross or John Desko.

However, IF this does come about it would indicate to me that in the eyes of Rutgers and Syracuse a split for the 2010-11 is not likely to happen.

Cheers,
Neil

i was thinking the same thing.

any plans from the other b.e. schools to start a lacross team. it is the fastest growing sport in america. i doubt it'll ever challenge football or basketball. but just maybe baseball or soccer.

If Louisville adds another men's sport, it'd be lacrosse. It won't happen without the Big East adding it as a sport though. I haven't heard anyone say that we are looking at developing a men's lacrosse program at this time, but that is likely due to it not being a league sport. The women join the league in the sport this coming school year. Jurich has certainly been adding according to what fits in the Big East profile, and the addition of women's lacrosse means the Cardinals join Rutgers as the only 2 league schools to now compete in all 23 sports sanctioned by the league. UofL has no teams that must compete in another league, such as wrestling, rifle, or hockey.

Unlike most schools which have been dropping sports or standing pat, UofL has added sports over the last decade. That was needed though for Title IX compliance in the case of ladies rowing, field hockey, and softball being added earlier in the decade. I don't know if women's lacrosse was added recently to fully comply with Title IX or simply to round out participation in all sports. If the answer is the latter, I assume we add men's lacrosse if the Big East adds it. If we added W's lacrosse to finish complying, then it's a tougher road on the men's side because we'd have to add something for the women that the BE doesn't offer.
