RE: If You Had One Billion to Spend On Sports
I would build a gladiator Coliseum, put Michael Vick in the center of it, and then unleash 100 crazy, mean, hungry pitbulls on him.

Or maybe I'd buy the New Orleans Saints and move them to The Ville. I would change their name to the Jacks. That would be short for Jack-o-lanterns. Pumpkin faces would be on the sides of the helmets. The mascot would be a headless rider with a pumpkin for their head riding a *******. The uniforms would be neon orange, black and yellow. You thought players getting snowballs thrown at them was bad, wait till rotten pumpkin guts come flying out of the stands.

Buy the Braves and give them a payroll like the Turner days. Build a new basketball arena at tech, a lacrosse field, the new softball field, soccer fields and i would buy land up north avenue and put a new 5 hole gold course for the team. I would tear down the olympic village and build the new fields there with extra parking for campus since God knows they need it. I would also give Georgia Southern the money to move up, Georgia State the rest of thier money needed to get started, KSU would have the money to get started, and VSU would have a new stadium so they could move up to D1. If there is any left I would give it to Augusta State to use on the athletic department as they see fit.
Oh yeah, I would give money to lobby for ASU to change it's name to UGA-Augusta, which was supposed to happen about 10 years ago.

I can only assume you're new to Tech or not really a student. To put my thoughts in perspective, I lived on campus for 4 years, and did 3 more for grad school. augjacket Wrote:Build a new basketball arena at tech, a lacrosse field, the new softball field, soccer fields and i would buy land up north avenue and put a new 5 hole gold course for the team.
Until Tech outgrows the Thrillerdome you don't touch it. That's a no-no. And what good will a 5-hole golf course do when Bobby Jones is just 4 miles away?

Tear down 2,000 of the newest residential units just to have more parking! When GT had to find hotels to house 138 students last fall?!?!? This isn't a commuter college!

It's your dream, so have at it. But to be sure, no matter how bad these teams would be when they start out, it's most certainly not in GT's best interest to have so many other programs popping onto the D1 scene. At the least all those schools are larger and would serve as a media and audience distraction from Tech far more so than UGA. Those schools are competing for different recruits, but they're all competing for the same consumer $.

$1 billion would just about cover the brand spanking new cliffside football stadium and major dorm overlooking the Monongahela that I envision as the perfect location for all Mountaineers.
Frank Lloyd Wright himself would be proud...
The view alone would bring in a ton of recruits.
