DURHAM, N.C. - Coming off its best finish of fifth in school history following the 2004-05 season, Duke picked up where it finished and is currently in fifth place of the initial fall standings for the 2005-06 Sports Academy Directors' Cup.
The first set of rankings includes men's and women's cross country and field hockey. The Duke women's cross country team finished third at the NCAA Championships and gained Duke 85 points while field hockey's runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament gave Duke 45 points.

Stanford is leading the contest with 172 points as they won the women's cross country NCAA Championship and finished sixth in the men's race.
