What is the greatest radio call in the history of ETSU sports?
Saw a piece on ESPN where they discussed the greatest radio calls in the history of sports.

Jack Fleming's call of the Immaculate Reception and Ned Jarrett calling Dale Jarrett's win in the '93 Daytona 500 were suspiciously absent, but, then again, it's ESPN.

Still- I started thinking about the greatest calls in the history of ETSU sports on the radio and I came up with these two-

1- Just last year when Jay called Courtney Pigram's game winning shot against Chattanooga. "AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS- YOU SHOULD!"

In that instant, the title of "Who is ETSU's biggest star" officially went from Brad Nuckles to Courtney.

2- The most pub I can ever remember an ETSU announcer getting was when Chip Kessler called the winning touchdown of the Bucs' late-season 28-23 win at Chattanooga in '96.

Somebody's gotta help me with the names here- but that was a real tough game for the Bucs with "upset" written all over it. Bucs don't win that they may not make the playoffs.

Closing minutes of the game Greg Ryan hits his receiver inside the 10 yard line. The receiver does a balancing act to get to the end zone if I recall for the winning touchdown.

Kessler's description of the run capitalized by "TOUCHDOWN ETSU!" was simple- but it was the call of the score that put ETSU into the playoffs and found its way on to the televison sports reports.

AND NOBODY SAY THAT CHUCK JONES BEGINNING EVERY SENTENCE WITH "FOOTBALL FANS" WAS THE GREATEST CALL EVER!

Pitt,

You may want to go look it up, but if I remember the '96 Chattanooga game correctly, the final ETSU scoring drive was an all Brandon Walker show in the final minutes. He ran the ball on every down and right into the Chattanooga defense (which couldn't stop him). He ran it in from inside the five for the final score. It may have been as time expired, but I can't remember. UTC may have had the ball one last time or at least received the kickoff.

Either way, it was a great one and capped one of the few memorable seasons in ETSU football history.

I don't have a '97 Media Guide so I don't know. That's why I'm putting the call out.

But I do remember that game was big. The traditional undermanned rival all fired up for their rival. If the Mocs win- their season is made with a satisfying win as a spoiler. If the Bucs win- they ensure a playoff berth.

Could Ryan have thrown a screen to Walker? I just don't remember the player who scored the winning touchdown, but I see it in my mind as a somewhat stumbling run towards the near pylon in the left end zone.

I also remember it as a late touchdown- but yes- there was time on the clock for Chattanooga.

"ladies and gentleman buckle your safety belts because flight 44 has landed with the right hand!"

"Oh my Goodness Zakee Wadood!"

The call for the first trip to the NCAA's with Zakee and Jerald was priceless as well.

Helman's call against the Lady Mocs in the last Southern Conference tournament was great too. I think he pulled out the "Do you believe in miracles?" line. UT-C had beaten the lady bucs like a drum in the two previous meetings, and they were actually recieving top 25 votes.

He didn't cuss and you know it! On a positive note the call Jay had on Anthony breaking the three point record for a game against Greensboro was priceless.
There was also that fantastic analysis about ETSU ripping your hearts out. That guy deserved a check plus!
