Florida State guard Matt Meinrod underwent surgery on his broken left leg, likely ending the senior's college career, team trainers said Wednesday.

Meinrod was released from a Tallahassee hospital late Tuesday and recovery is expected to take up to 12 weeks.

Meinrod expressed a desire to return for a bowl game, but the training staff for No. 4 Florida State said that would be unwise because of potentially damaging effects on his knee and ankle. Meinrod also missed most of last season after tearing a knee ligament in the season opener at Miami.

"He's going to miss the season and there's no projected (return) at this point," head trainer Randy Oravetz said. "He's got some issues in there. It's just a shame because he has done everything we've asked of him and he has worked so hard to get back."
