For a long time I have said that with all the emphasis ETSU places on golf they should do more.

Let's just consider this-

Let's say that you're Tennessee football. And you say that you can't compete with local players- you need recruits from all over- and so there are no Tennessee players but the cream of the crop from California, Florida, Texas and Western PA.

And then you get the finest facilities known to man. And so much is spent on them that there are other sports that have to be dropped because it is deemed so important to have a winning football team.

And then let's say that we pay that coach one of the top salaries in the country.

And then let's say that your best player is a Heisman contender- a real golden boy.

And then let's say THE TEAM FINISHES 16th IN THE COUNTRY!

Let's say that in addition to that, the arch-rival beats Tennessee with A PLAYER FROM TENNESSEE- not only once in the regular season- but in the bowl game as well!

Well, folks, that's EXACTLY what is going on at ETSU with the golf team.

Sure, the Florida and Texas guys are translated to the Europeans- though it should be mentioned every player on the current National Champion- Stanford- is an American and that Clemson won the Nat. Title three years ago with a roster comprised entirely of South Carolinians.

And the so-called Heisman Contender is Rhys Davies.

And the Tennesseean who beats ETSU like a drum? Phil Pettitt- who not only embarassed ETSU by beating them on the last putt of the Bank of Tennessee Tournament in Jonesborough, but grabbed the final spot in the national finals ahead of ETSU as well.

Don't be fooled by "We're just ETSU- we should be happy with No. 16!" or whatever it was the Bucs wound up in (was it 15? Who cares?).

Lamar and Coastal Carolina tied for third this year.

Point is- with all the emphasis and money ETSU puts into golf No. 15-16 should be unacceptable- like No. 16 was unacceptable for Florida fans for Ron Zook.

So why isn't Warren held to the same standards here?

I mean other than our inferiority complex at ETSU.

I've said Warren was overrated.

But I don't believe I have compared him to Ron Zook.
