Maryland is a border state--the south doesn't begin in earnest until about Richmond. NoVA is being overrun by Yankees and government workers from every state in the union.

Bitcruncher--if you saw junior officers shot by their own men--did you report it? It is a crime against the UCMJ and it is your duty.

Texan, I'm just giving Omni a hard time. My wife actually grew up in Hyattsville. I consider her southern since her parents are from North Carolina.

So your saying those officers were FRAGGED because the AD at the time scheduled the likes of Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers, Utah, William and Mary?

Dude...as one poster tried to explain to you...the football scheduling of Navy and/or Army will NOT make one a better or worse officer...and easy or tough games will not increase or decrease the chance one an officer getting FRAGGED!

I can't believe a football fan could even try and make connection between the two...but congrats on being the first fool to do so.

No I didn't report it. I was too busy looking for my weapon. If he missed I was taking the next shot. The rules don't always apply in combat. Especially in a guerrila war. If you've ever been in a real war, you understand exactly what I'm talking about.

The Vietnam war was run by morons for the most part. Anyone with any sense got transferred out of a position of responsibility more often than not.

Bit, My brother-in-law was a Marine that served in Vietnam. He was wounded multiple times & forced to retire. He is from Texas. He enlisted in the Marines when he was 18. After Vietnam he enrolled at the Univ. of Texas. He walked onto the football team. He started at linebacker before he graduated. His senior year was Earl Campbell's freshman year. He is as laid back as they come now, but in his day he must have been one bad muther.

My brother fought in Vietnam in 1966-67. Yesterday was his 64th birthday.

He still has grenade fragments in both legs. Even at age 64, I am sure he has his .44 handy in case anyone messes with him.

Happy 4th Bit, Wilkie and all other vets on the board.

I'm pretty laid back myself, and since my transplant nothing really bothers me. Of course, since my '98 brain injury I can't remember things long enough to get upset anyway. In my day, however, I was fairly dangerous when I wanted to be. You can never judge a book by its cover - unless it a uniform with medals. But even then it can get a bit difficult.

There's old soldiers and bold soldiers, but there ain't no old bold soldiers.

There were a lot of us bad muthas in 'Nam. But the really bad ones with any brains kept their heads and butts covered when it hit the fan. L8r

RE: Article: BE enters scheduling discussion with Army and Navy
Getting back to the subject. Asking Army and Navy to join the BE is like the B-10 asking Providence to join them. Army and Navy are great educational institutions that provide future military officers to protect this great country of ours. They would bring great tradition too. However their enrollments are small 4-5000, and they cannot recruit like L'Ville, WV, Rutgers, and the rest of the FB schools. They would have the same problem with the other money maker - BB - in a split BE too if they entered the all sports league too. I agree with the others too that in most years they would start the year with 4 loses before they even played a game. Five for Navy with ND on the schedule. Playing one or two BE games a year is all they really want to play and all they will ever play in most seasons. They need to play schools their size and same academic stature like Wake Forest and Duke where they can play competively and want to play a national schedule like ND to meet their sports recruiting and educational recruiting needs. I fully agree with the direction they are taking for exposure for their needs, potential bowl appearances, and success of their programs.

If they were to join a BCS conference they should have joined the ACC. I know they weren't invited but if the ACC would have expanded with them and BC they would have had a better chance for success with smaller schools like Wake, Duke, and BC in the league and Duke would have had a better chance for a couple of league wins to. There is a great association with the BE and the eastern academies especially with Rutgers, Conn, Cuse, and Pitt but the BE should really concentrate on larger schools like UCF, Memphis, and even ECU for expansion. They have more to offer with geographical markets, bowls, facilities, and student enrollments (UCF 45,000) for BE or split BE expansion at this time. Even Temple would have more to give the Split Big East all sports at this time with the Philly market, the Linc, and larger student enrollment. Let Army, Navy, and ND follow their independent FB status with some associations with the SBE and let the SBE move on with schools that are more closely associated with them. Happy 4th.

Eddie Pastalong won't be around forever. By 2010 he will probably have retired.

If he lets Shelly Poe get away (she's been offered the Ohio State SID job) he mat be asked to resign.

RE: Article: BE enters scheduling discussion with Army and Navy
Split or no split Army and Navy are not becoming part of the BE for more than 2 games each. Trained goose can kiss their Arse all he wants to save his blessed BB schools. They don't want him or the BE. Navy can take any BE minor bowl it wants and both acadamies want their independent national schedules with no more than 2 BE teams on the schedule like ND. IF the Trained Goose (puppet of ND) wants to save the BB schools he will have to offer FB only to ECU or Temple to save the Hybrid. The only other alternative is all sports to UCF or Memphis which won't fly because that will make it 9 all sports to 8 BB for the conference and the BB schools won't accept that. The SPLIT is ON.
