Disobedient teen gets public punishment

A Memphis mom tired of her daughter getting into trouble decided to punish her with public humiliation.
Cherie Wilkins said she'd done everything she could think of to keep her 13-year-old daughter Tashara in line and nothing has worked.
So, Sunday she tried a more creative approach to discipline.
For about four hours Sunday afternoon, a shady spot on Ridgeway was Tashara Wilkins' public prison.
Tashara held a sign that read: I don't obey my parents, I'm a liar. I steal from my mom. I have a bad attitude.
It's what Tashara calls cruel and unusual punishment. Tarshara said she likes boys and she doesn't see anything wrong with that.
But it's what her mother calls discipline.
Cherie Wilkins says she's tried other ways of disciplining her daughter but so far nothing has worked, so Sunday she tried another avenue.
"All other resources haven't worked so I'm making her be publicly humiliated today," said Wilkins.
Wilkins says her daughter's bad attitude Sunday morning was the final straw.
"I hope this works for her. I love my child. I want her to be a productive citizen. Most parents may think this is cruel. I don't, I could be beating her to death, but I'm not," Wilkins added.
And she says if thousands of people see her daughter's punishment on television that's fine with her.
She's already heard from several people who support her parenting style.
"I have a 7 and a 5-year-old and I'm taking notes," said parent Neca Dimming. "I think more parents should be just like her," she added.
But as for Tashara, even after hours of literally wearing her offenses, the point wasn't lost in the punishment.
"It's a way for my mama to open my eyes and tell me I need to do better by her embarrassing me," she commented.
And she added, "it might even work. I'm gonna start because I don't wanna be standing out here with everybody looking at me like I'm crazy with this sign."
You can see Tashara's punishment on Ridgeway all week. Her mother said she plans to have her daughter wear the sign to church on Tuesday night.
