Let me get this straight.

You won't let the baseball coach be the AD because there is a conflict of interest?

I don't know whether to applaud Ed Alexander or to wring his neck.

On one case, we have seen something of the conflict of interest when a tennis coach is hired as the AD at ETSU because it cemented the country club sports would reign.

On the other hand, its rather commonplace for a coach to double as the AD in any athletic department.

And don't you think in high school athletics there is less of a chance of a conflict of interest for a coach/AD than there would be if you had a college coach taking the double role?

They made this guy Alexander the school board head over there in Elizabethton because the old one, evidently, claimed a few extra bucks for moving expenses.

Looks like the guys over there in Betsy Towne should have just paid the bucks.

Can't tell the players in Carter County without a score card!!

I believe that Elizabethton High will have had 4 principals in the last 4 years.

The community recalled school board members because they didn't like the way the old board treated their favorite principal.

The favorite principal is now the Director of Schools and they are not happy with him.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, the natives are picketing the office of the Director of Schools for Carter County, or is it Elizabethton.

What a useless drama.

Elizabethton is a community that makes Erwin look cosmopolitan, but regardless.

To actually try and float that you can't be a coach and an AD at the same time- that's like saying you can't be a woman and a mother!

It's sad actually. What was once an athletic program that was really well ran has turned to complete garbage. It's really a summary of the area though. I found out this week my old high school's A.D. did away with their athletic boosters. Ironically enough, their golf, tennis and volleyball teams are highly successful.
Pitt I have a challenge for you that will take you some time, I would fool with this but don't have the time, take a look at the performance of the high school teams on both sides of the line at the regional and state level over the last five years, and how many kids have gone to bigger colleges. (King does NOT COUNT, neither does Emory and Henry or UVA-Wise) Couple the lack or performance with the disaster that happened at Abingdon High School last year, that led to their A.D. resigning, the THS controversy a few years back with B.W. Holt (who is having great success in N.C.) and so on. I believe when you really look at it closely, ETSU is nothing more than a reflection of the sorry ass way the entire area is ran.

That's kind of the point I was trying to make.

I am not familar with Holt's situation- I wasn't living around here at the time- maybe you can help me.

But my experience with media in this area is that they could expose the crap, but if you try, nobody will stand behind you.

I'm not Pitt but I have a bit of time (but not enough to look at dates limiting to last 5 years).

I believe folks will be surprised in Southwest Virginia athletes in the last 10 years or so. This is just a start, there are lots more that signed D1 scholarships, others feel free to add to the list.

Dang you just brought back some memories... Think about all those people mentioned above, especially the Gate City stat, I'm guessing Nick Colobro's theme song should be "Are The Good Times Really Over."
What we're seeing in this area is the kids are being coddled WAAAY TOO MUCH. There not being pushed to succeed as a whole, within the school systems there are too many teachers leaning too far on the left side of the fence post and need to be brought back to the middle. Everyone forgets that even at the high school level, a successful athletic program is almost vital to bringing in additional income to your school. It frustrated me to know in when I hear these meatballs call into Bill's show and they can't understand why Tennessee isn't recruiting their kid. The big schools don't want the kids from here anymore. For the most part, the work ethic, desire, heart, all gone, and it's in every aspect of sports here. From the horrible media coverage, and I mean HORRIBLE, to some school systems not allowing pep rallies before big games, the whole thing, it sucks.
