Yep, NIU and Iowa face off on Saturday, September 1st @ 2:30 p.m. in Soldier Field (home of the Chicago Bears). Our game should be a sellout with how quickly tickets have sold. There's still two and a half months to sell the 16k tickets left. I'm surprised you did not know of this until now. I know about EMU's game vs. NU at Ford Field. Btw, how are ticket sales for that game?

RE: 45,000 Tickets Sold for NIU/Iowa Already
as NIU is the home game NIU will set a MAC home game attendance record.

Temple fans expect to set a MAC home game attendance record the night before with their game vs. Navy at the Linc. The current MAC attendance record is 36K.

The NIU record should stand until either 1). PSU vs Temple at the Linc this Nov. or 2). OSU vs. Toledo at CLE Browns stadium in '09.

This is good. The MAC offices should pay attention and work with NIU to replicate this success in the future. I still think NIU v Navy at Soldier Field would be a great game too.

No way on Navy. We wnat them at home. We can bringin a couple thousand temp seat to get the Great Lakes Naval crowd in the building, but we want this one at home. Maybe Wisconsin in 09. If Iowa goes well, we may be at SF every other year.

Then you're missing the bigger picture.

Quote: Maybe Wisconsin in 09. If Iowa goes well, we may be at SF every other year.

I think being at SF every other year is a great idea. However, you better look beyond the B10. The novelty will wear off very quickly. Wisconsin isn't that far away to begin with, and they play N'western anyway.

If things go well w/ those teams, then I'd look to get Oklahoma, ASU (huge Chicago enrollment), UofA (similar to ASU), and maybe even look to TAMU or Texas.

But you need to convince those teams that you can consistently fill SF...something I think Navy does for you b/c of Great Lakes.

Navy is 08 game, and I think every year would be a reach. Not enough revenue in getting buidling filled with GL people. I doubt the government is going to pay for tickets. UW argument holds no water in that Iowa play at NU also. UW would be another sellout. NU plays in a dump compared to the new SF.

You just keep believing and missing all my points. I'm sure that the MAC's unprecedented success over the past several decades comes from fans like you.

It costs $600,000 to rent Soldier Field for a Game.
That is alot of tickets you have to sell to make that up along with paying the visiting team.
Once in awhile is fine but not every year.

Dr.Torch is on to something.

I heard an interview with the EMU AD and he indicated that he has heard from Oklahoma and a B12 team from Texas, maybe A&M, interested in a game at Ford Field.

I'm a little out of season on FB recruiting, but I believe OK got one of the best MI preps in Feb.

They like this for the exposure (e.g., recruiting).

RE: 45,000 Tickets Sold for NIU/Iowa Already
What is the average ticket price?
45,000 x 50 is 2.250 million
45,000 x 40 is 1.8 million
45,000 x 30 is 1.350 million
45,000 x 20 is 900k
45,000 x 15 is 675k

61,000 x 40 is 2.4 million
61,000 x 30 is 1.8 million
61,000 x 20 is 1.2 million
61,000 x 15 is 915k

looks likes after taking out the 600k and splitting the rest 50/50 your making some good $$$$$.
on-campus you save the 600k, but your might not be able to sell to the higher paying customers. probably a good move with the high profile game to move it downtown.
24,000 x 15 is 360k
20,000 x 15 is 300k

NIU is selling their tickets at $55 and $45, and I assume Iowa is doing the same.

I agree with DrTorch that if NIU were to do this every year that they would have to spread their horizons outside the big 10 or the novelty will wear off. They will need to bring in either A. teams with a large base of Chicago alum, or B. top national programs (i.e. Ohio State, Florida, Texas, LSU, Notre Dame, etc.). The danger of playing the top teams would be if NIU gets their brains beat in (like we did at Ohio State last year) then no NIU fan is going to drop $50 to see it every year. However, I think they could work it where you get a mix of teams you have a semi-realistic chance of beating, and top teams in the country where you are able to keep interest going.

Iowa is really working out well. They aren't that far away, they have a large Chicago alum base, and they present a team that NIU has a decent chance of beating, and a team they should stay close too.

I do know there are/were talks about playing Alabama at Soldier Field.

Yeah, that's weird. They should have been selling tickets for that game the past three or four months if they want to sell it out. I'd be surprised if NU brought 5,000 fans. NU's attendance only averages in the mid-to-high 20k because other Big Ten teams bring a lot of fans to Evanston.

You honestly think there was ever a chance of EMU/NU selling out at Ford Field?

Bite me. Navy is not a SF game. SF can be used every other year agianst big name teams that travel well like Wisconsin, maybe Tenn, Alabama etc. You really do make any valid points. I know NIU and Chicago better than you. You do not do this every year to keep it fresh and the names need to be big. Not Navy, get this through your thick skull.

No, but it would have sold more tickets for the game if they sold them for 6+ months rather than one month.
