Both of them deserved it. I am glad I was not on the selection committee.
BTW, this includes academics. I think that helped JWILL some.

Obviously the best player does not always win these awards. Juan won the one thing he could actually control. The national championship!

All in all, I think Juan got what matters more and will stay with him and be remembered by many at, or who follow, Maryland for a long time to come: He is part of the national championship team. This is something that will be a part of him until his dying day hopefully aeons from now. Awards are just, like, fleeting man. Or was it that lame group Kansas that intoned the phrase "dust in the wind."
[Hmm, that's funny ... didn't the Terps turn Kansas into "dust in the wind" in the national semifinal?]
The Wooden Award (and some of the other frippery they hand out in college hoops -- and college football) seems increasingly meaningless. Sort of like the Best New Artist Grammy.
Still have to give Jason Williams some notice for being classy about accepting the award and singling out He Who A Number of Folks Feel Was the Better Player.
Too bad I missed this -- a penguin-suit affair. I could have gotten a giggle out of seeing JWilly and Juan Dixon wearing silly, stupid penguin suits (the most gawdawful things ever invented. I'm not a big fan of formal wear for either sex).
Hey, isn't the Terps' annual awards thing a penguin-suit affair too? Wonder if it SHOULD be since it'll be the last one with this particular team ... and it seems like I read somewhere that it would be held on the floor at Cole, though I could be dreaming this.
