RE: Official Football Study Thread
I know getting a stadium is also a big hurdle as far as having land and being able to finance construction. An article in the Sentinel said the East Parking Lot was a possible location for a stadium. That's fine, but what about the big wooded area behind the Math and Science building and between University Place and the baseball/softball/soccer fields. That area seems to be large enough to hold a stadium and I believe it was an option in the past as there is a drawing of a possible stadium in a copy of the 2005 master plan. I will put in a link and the stadium drawing is on p.16 and 17. I think that it would be a great location. Do any of you guys know why they would mention the East Parking Lot possibility over this one?

RE: Official Football Study Thread
After browsing through the pdf and looking at the stadium drawing, it appears as if, in my opinion, that the best option for a future football stadium would be behind the math and science building. It's hard for me to discuss sometimes because football is talked about so much year after year around campus that I've learned to take any "news" with a grain of salt unless it's an official release from the university itself. That being said, one of the things I heard previously in regards to the idea of the stadium behind the clendenin building (math and science) as kennesawfan53 pointed out is the tree huggers on campus wouldn't allow anything back there due to some rare plant or tree or something crazy. Now, like I said, as I have learned, please take that with a grain of salt I don't know officially if that was an actual reason, but in all seriousness, its the academic people like that that will be the hardest to get around when it comes to getting a program at KSU. Anyone heard anything like that? Anything different? Thoughts on what it will take as far as campus-wide acceptance (students and faculty)?

Yes I have heard the same thing about a rare plant growing in that wooded area. However, it's not really the tree huggers that are to blame for that area not being used but more the government. I believe it's law that if there is an endangered plant growing in an area than you cannont build unless you have the plant moved to a safe area. I'm sure that alone could be pricey along with a lot of red tape to go through. I think a stadium the size of Bobby Dodd could fit in the parking lot behind the Waffle House (can't remember the name of that parking lot.) Me and a friend of mine did a very unscientific study by using google maps to see how big of a stadium could fit there and Bobby Dodd size would work. Of course that would be 50,000+ and we probably don't need to start off with a stadium that big but we need to have room for upgrades.

I've actually heard the same thing in regards to a rare plant and even that there's a rare bird in there as well. I'm not heartless, but I am realistic and I know that we need to utilize every bit of land on campus that we have. We can't allow a plant to dicatate whethor or not we can use what little land we have left. Even if we don't put a stadium there, we need to use that land for either academics or athletics. Surely there is someway the government would make an exception for us because we desparately need more space.

I'm actually fine with the East Parking Lot idea if its big enough for a stadium. I just wish the land behind the math and science building could be used for something that would actually help the university.

I think I learned of the fabled plant in KSU 1101. Needless to say, when I took the class it was such a joke I decided to write and design a two page spread in the Sentinel with every thing I learned in that class and it was a freakin comedy. Unfortunately, it's not coming up in the archives though.

Past threads and my thoughts at those times:
http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=17793
6-26-07 "No one knows anything is pretty much everything we know. "10 years away" has been the default answer for the athletic department for at least 4 years now (since I first got to Kennesaw). Long enough for them not to have to be held responsible for their comment. Good times."
4-13-07 "Knowing this school, State will have football before we do. They're so confined to think inside the box it's not even funny. If the ath dept is like their marketing dept, I have no idea how they get anything done. Well I do know, they put a ton of weight on their coaches to make things happen. Ingle does a ton of work most coaches at other schools don't have to do. Same with Rob King (wsoccer) and Whitlock for softball.
#The structure of the department hasn't grown with the same rate as the school.
#Everyone would like to say we're going to jump the A-Sun ship for greener pastures but I see that as unlikely.
#Papp is probably the main pusher of football and the person to get it done if it is going to happen. That's a lot of work for a president dealing with graduation rates and faculty/student ratios (not to mention budgeting and behind the scenes). He's still green as Kennesaw's president so we don't have much more to go on other than he's probably the guy that will make or break a football team at KSU"

4-17-07 "10 years. :) "

http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=16924
7-9-06 "Trying to get an answer out of the AD [about football] is impossible. The newspaper has asked every year ever since I've been in school and the answer is always a canned "Ten years." Ten years since 4 years ago or ten years from now... they don't respond at all and don't create any hype whatsoever.
#Joining this conference is the nail into the board that we won't be considering football for a long time. Definately not during our probationary period (3 more years) and most likely not anytime soon afterwards."

Only mention of football is the strain it would add on the gender %'s. Only date mentioned for football is beyond 2009.

Other interesting stuff in there. This is the draft according to kennesaw.edu but who knows. It seems pretty close to the final after reading a few pages.

Maybe 10 years from when I started school (2003) isn't so off. I was right on a few things, wrong on a few others.

"If everything went 'absolutely prefect,' the Owls could field a team and play its first game in the fall of 2013."
