Official Football Study Thread
Hey, I needed to make one thread for this so I can keep track.

I have heard back from Papp and here's the correspondence:
Quote:Hello Dr. Papp,
I am Nick Mracek, a recent graduate of Kennesaw State this past spring. I read a while ago that a study was being commissioned by your office and that it would be completed sometime towards the end of the spring semester. I'm aware of the Fox5 News piece you did about the subject and was wondering what has come about since then. I have some thoughts I would like to pass along as far as an announcement would be concerned.

If there is a positive feedback towards starting football from your study, I would suggest release it on a wide spectrum and hit the announcement hard. You seem to be on the same page with going to television. I would include the AJC moreso than the Marietta Daily Journal just for sheer volume and recognition. The AJC is kind of iffy about Kennesaw State stories, but I believe this would have enough pulling power to warrent some decent coverage. I also think there is a small competition with Georgia State in who will get a program running first. It's important in my eyes to acknowledge them in their pursuit when talking about our own school.

As you stated in your tv appearance, it has to be a business decision. I understand that but do think it is a right of passage for a school in the south to have a football program. Good luck with the exploration committee.

Nick Mracek

Dr Papp
Quote:Hi Nick-

Thank you for your very thoughtful and sensible observations. I
appreciate them. We are moving forward with the study (which is not
just about football, but rather about athletics as a whole at KSU) and
should be releasing it sometime over the summer. Keep your fingers
crossed! And thanks for your support.

Dan Papp

The Kennesaw Athletic Program needs money for all sports. I am assuming this study is based on the singular idea of how they can best fund their current sports, and then if football is a possibility. I am guessing that Kennesaw doesnt see football for atleast another 5-10 years. Just my opinion though.

It just doesn't make much sense to bide our time in the ASun if we were going to get football. I understand the decision was made before Papp but now it doesn't leave them much choice even if it is his outspoken favorite sport.

Well the prolonged wait doesn't bode well for football I can only assume.

Eh.... I am not so sure the wait tells us much. A lot has to go into such a study and like they said this would be a business decision.... they are not going to jump into anything with out extensively researching the consequences.

I saw a headline in the Atlanta Business Chronicle stating that KSU is seeking 30 million dollars to start football. The Atlanta Business Chronicle doesn't post all of their articles online, so did anyone read/catch this?

RE: Official Football Study Thread
That's the initial fundraising phase. They're doing it quietly, which is weird I think. It's hard with our alumni base to get excited enough to give substantial amount of money when they're being promised nothing. There's no plan for a stadium, there's a few ideas of course but they haven't drawn up anything other than a few plots of land on the master plan.

I haven't heard anything about the biz chron article. They seem to be on their stuff though so it wouldn't surprise me they had tracked this down.

Anyone have the full text of this Atlanta Business Chronicle article? http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/s...tory6.html

Start opening the wallets come October. Wonder if there's going to be an angel investor. That'd be pretty damn cool for some guy/company to pony up a significant money during this phase. Stadium naming rights for 10 mil... might work, who knows.

#2003-19 “Football Market Efficiency and the Embarrassment Factor” Ladd Kochman (Kennesaw State University) and Randy Goodwin (Kennesaw State University) Defining embarrassment as the straight-up loss of a football game by a college team that had been favored by 10 or more points, Kochman and Goodwin hypothesized that embarrassed teams would be pointwise winners in their next game. Despite the intuitive appeal of embarrassment providing extra motivation, K&G found that schools won only half the time (154 out of 308 wagers) in games following embarrassing losses. Teams designated extremely embarrassed by virtue of having lost their previous game when
favored by 20+ points, won at even a lower rate (41.5 percent). Once again the football-betting market has proven to be remarkably efficient.

I was talking to my jazz professor and he told me about this. It's crazy to pay that much for parking. And I agree with the last statement that they shouldn't have to pay that much because they should be honored for working on campus.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
Parking is a problem at any major university. Kennesaw is going to need to build some huge parking decks to accomodate the influx of 4 year standard students that will be attending in the next 2-3 years. Kennesaw is in the process of moving from a primarily commuter school for nearby residents to a standard 4 year institution, and with that there will be a huge need for more parking and more housing. It will be a huge challenge that Dr. Papp will need to meet head on.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
Is KSU going for the entire 30 million dollars in one shot?

GSU is looking at a total figure of 10 million, but is only looking at getting 1 or 2 million by September, then looking at supplementing that with student fees. Then turning back around and seeking more donors.
