Maryland fans, how does it feel to lose a player early to the NBA? It feels pretty terrible don't it? Now you know how Carolina fans have felt for the last 20 years. Worthy, then Jordan. UNC has felt this way 6 times in the last 7 years. Stackhouse, Wallace, McInnis, Carter, Jamison, and Forte. It's terrible isn't it? It'll be interesting to see how MD handles it next year. UNC didn't handle Forte's leaving too well. They handled the other defections pretty well though. Looks like Duke will be the preseason media darling once again.

They had Steve Francis do it a couple years back, right after he said he was staying. As an avid supporter of staying in school, it kind of ticked me off that he said he was coming back, then left. As a Duke supporter, it brought a smile to my face, even though he never really torched us.

Joe Smith also left early...he and Francis are the only two to make the jump early under GW.

BTW...Wilcox is not officially gone yet.

When Wilcox says he is leaving early, that's when I'll believe it. The Sun article quotes "sources", and now every other news site on the web is quoting the Sun. It won't be a huge surprise if he does actually leave, but I want to hear it from him.

I thought JJ posted a link that had Wilcox's decision as official. Am I wrong?!?

If not, my day just got a bit worse...

I wouldn't worry about it Neal, despite the fact that every right thing to do would be staying in school, his stock would rise if anything, He would make more money next draft, and he'd be a better player. right now, he was one move he could use in the pros, and thats a jump hook, which hasnt been 100% successful this season.

Despite all that, it does look like he probably will go now. I'm not getting my hopes up.

It's not official, but he is all but gone, usually when things happen like this all this speculation about him having made the decision it usually happens. Almost like, everybody thinks Im leaving so I should leave...

Wilcox is gone. Thats OK....we're the national champions. We may be "only" a top 20-25 team next year, but thats not so bad for a rebuilding year. Then....we will start our climb again. I've heard really good things about the guys who might be coming in next year (not Garrison, McCray, Caner-Medley and Gilchrist....but the guys for the year after that). We are going to be in serious good shape for the next 4-5 years!

In your orginal statement "HOW DOES IT FEEL"

We've lost many a player to the NBA early you just showed what little knowledge you have of ACC Basketball. The last school in the conference to lose a player early to the NBA was Duke 2 years ago... When Avery, Brand , and Magettee(sp) left...

And as it has already been stated all of us Terps fans gladly entered this season knowing we would lose Wilcox if we won a National Championship...

My only advice to Wilcox is don't sign with an agent until you have to....

That was 3 years ago when that bunch left out(1999). Plus, Carolina and Clemson lost players early to the NBA last year. Do the names Joseph Forte and Soloman ring a bell?

I usually like your posts, but this one is a little premature. Drew might be an ACC basketball expert, for all you know from his post. And, he is right. Maryland's list of early entrants is no where near the list of UNC's.

BTW, why alienate him like you did?

Like you said, you are national champions. Shouldn't you be in a welcoming spirit, or has this Wilcox thing gotten you a little uneasy?

I like Wilcox and would love for him to stay for many reasons....

But I also feel there are recruits coming in that can get the job done just like Wilcox. Never underestimate the power of your freshman class.

What would some of the ACC teams done this year without Hodge, Jawad, and Jenifer (to name a few)?

Nothing that has been posted here has offended me. Just don't state things like Avery, Maggette, and Brand were the last ACC players to go early. Stuff like that is no where near factual. Let's talk facts here. Facts, not spin.
