Golf Team in the running for national title
As much as we bash golf and tennis around here, you have to hand it to the golf team. They are 4th through two rounds in the National Championship tournament.

No offense, because I understand the point of your post, but so what if they win the title? Will it bring any recognition (to anyone besides the players themselves) other than the regional newspapers? Other than a few obscure websites, I highly doubt it. ETSU will still be stuck in the A-Sun, with a dwindling fan base, and an apathetic student body.

I hope they win, really. It would be great for those players, but it would also show people that winning in those sports brings the general university community little, if anything.

I agree that it wouldnt bring much attention at all, but I still think it would be cool for our school to finally own a Division I National Title.

I agree about the national title. I saw where Vanderbilt last month won its first ever national title and it was in ladies bowling. I will take a golf national championship compared to that any day!

RE: Golf Team in the running for national title
I'm a bit mixed on this.

Because yes, I understand it would be nice to win a National Title.

But at what price?

If the golf team wins the National Title it will be used as a way to say "See? It's a good thing we're in the Atlantic Sun and we have an entirely European roster and we built a $2 million golf facility while we couldn't draw nearly that much for any of the other sports. ETSU is too small to win in basketball or baseball, but if they choose their spots and put their eggs in this basket- HOORAY!"

And that is very damaging.

If the big name boosters who back golf put that money into other sports, ETSU could be a basketball power or have a football program in a non BCS Division I-A conference.

The golf team is very self serving. If ETSU wins a National Championship in golf, they will be swinging their clubs with the blood of football and the Southern Conference on their hands.

Well we dont have to worry about it now. In a monumental choke job, the golf team shot 14 over today so know they are tied for 19th place. Only the top 15 make the cut, so it appears we are done.

From 4th to 19th in one day...amazing

That's too bad about dropping to 19th. Not that I'm *that* interested.... but, if you make the cut do the scores reset for the next round?

I'd like to know how a team can choke that bad? Do we have Hamilton out there coaching them or something?

No the scores stand they just cut the field, like they do in a PGA event.

Final round scores
Davies: +3
Shaw: +3
Power: +6
Mcnamara: +8
Findlay: +2

Not even one player had a good day. Oh well, lets see how etsubucs.com will put a positive spin on that.
