No National/Regional TV for UofL-UK football

The game was not picked up for national/regional TV by the SEC's TV partners so PPV is the only option. If there is a PPVcast, those of us outside of Kentucky probably see the game on ESPN Game Plan

RE: No National/Regional TV for UofL-UK football
I don't know if there's any chance the game could be picked up by ESPN2 or something, but I'm not surprised. Mitch Barnyard is a poor AD for the Cayuts and UK leadership overall is running scared from their state rival to the west. Many may remember the comments from the President of Kentucky leading up to last year's football beatdown, where he called UofL "overhyped and underperforming". That comment sounded strange when the Cards were up 31-0 before the Cayuts hit the scoreboard!

As for the athletic department side, they are trying to drop UofL in sports where they are getting beat regularly while minimizing public outcry, even from their own fans. When the last football renewal was signed, Barnyard's goal was to get Jurich to be at fault for stopping the series. Since UofL wanted the game to remain a season opener, Barnyard said UK refused to open at home. Jurich didn't take the bait from his inferior counterpart and the signed deal worked out is that the home team chooses when the game is played that season. In even years its the season opener in Louisville, but UK knocked it back to game 3 in odd numbered years. When the deal was worked out, UK said a loss in TV money & national exposure was fine because they wanted to open with wins.

Football gets the news, but they are also dropping UofL in non-revenue sports. Starting this fall they refuse to play UofL's top 15 volleyball program, and don't even bother making excuses there. They simply admit they want the program to gather wins instead of a loss every fall to the Cards.

This game should be on national TV. This is a good rivalry.

Uh, this is exactly what Barnhart intended when he moved the series. It had to do with less exposure for his crappy program.

I agree. They won't be able to turn down a TV slot if offered with no strings, but I won't be shocked if ESPN2 offers a time slot and UK refuses to move the game time an hour or two in either direction, while using a pitiful excuse for an explanation.

The game is destined for PPV. Since they have to use SEC TV partners:

-CBS chose Tenn-Florida (can't complain there)

-ESPN/ESPN2 is filled except for its 12pm game and can't air a SEC at the same time as Lincoln Financial is airing a game.

ESPN
Game TBD, 12pm
Ohio St. at Washington, 3:30pm
Arkansas at Alabama, 6:45pm
Florida St. at Colorado, 10pm

ESPN2
Game TBD, 12pm
Texas at UCF, 3:30pm
Game TBD, 7pm (likely to be an ACC game)

ESPNU does not contract with the SEC for games, so they aren't an option either.

-Lincoln Financial chose Mississippi St. at Auburn for their 12:30pm EST game.

The way the SEC structured their TV agreements is for exclusivity. Only one SEC game airs at a time on their TV partners. Sometime ESPN has SEC games on ESPN & ESPN2, but it is rare.
