$60,000 cars and $10,000 stereos for Duke players?

Boozer's car stereo valued at $9200 was stolen recently, and he supposedly drives a $60,000 Lincoln Navigator. This is really surprising since I read several times that Elton Brand drove the same luxury SUV, a Lincoln Navigator, and he came from a poor family. I've even heard that Avery who had to drop out to support his poor family drove a new sports car at Duke. Duke supposedly has the richest students in the country but I never saw any other students driving around in $60,000 cars, or even such cars from profs or admins or whoever parked around campus, maybe a few when the parents were visiting. David Falk ended up representing Brand, is he allowed to give out big loans to his client K's players? Where the hell are these Navigators coming from?

The agents probably paid for it. I also saw Forte driving an escalade multiple times, long before he declared. It's no secret that agents buy guys cars.

David Falk was Brand's agent and hanging around him and his teammates since he was a freshman, did he break NCAA rules, why the hell is that scumbag K's agent and given access to Duke players and even recruits when other schools and the NCAA try so hard to keep agents away from such improper contact? Actually, Boozer had the Navigator and $9200 stereo at least as early as December or January when I first saw this reported, I think it's a 2000 model so he may have gotten it as early as when he signed with Duke. Brand supposedly drove his Navigator throughout his sophomore year, maybe earlier. Brand's mother was a social worker and his father apparently didn't support him at all if he even knew him, so how could he afford it? How long had Avery had his sports car, he bought a Cadillac Escalade SUV the week before Brand's press conference and Burgess said he hadn't seen Avery for 2 weeks back when Elton went pro, so why was K so surprised by Avery's announcement and so opposed to it since he was a top prospect and in much more financial need and academic difficulty than Brand? Many players get new cars a few weeks before the draft after they sign an agent and before or after they formally declare, but Duke players seem to have gotten theirs much sooner, why and how? Also, parents of Brand and Boozer got jobs and moved to Durham, were Duke boosters involved in any way with that?

Blue Devil,

"Improper exchange of money or assets" goes on all the time. Stop the bull**** about Falk being a scumbag and Coach K letting him get away with it. Baron Davis was given a car to go to UCLA, or he would have gone to Duke. Forte was driving an escalade before he declared. I can't verify this, but I heard that Haywood had multi thousand dollar jewelry and electronic equipment, before his senior season was over.

And that is only from the handful of people I've seen!

This is very annoying to me. The fact that this takes place so much, and is overlooked at top notch schools is very irritating to me. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure it happened with some UMD players, but as a student trying to make his own way, isn't this an annoying thing to witness?

Do you guys think that this type of corruption will ever be stopped? It's annoying that this can take place, because it might be what keeps the same teams at the top of the charts.

Dungirly can help pay for this stuff now......

Dunleavy signs three-year deal with Warriors

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mike Dunleavy, the third overall pick in the NBA draft, signed with the Golden State Warriors on Monday.

Dunleavy, a 6-foot-9 forward, was a member of Duke's 2001 national championship team. He averaged 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds for the Blue Devils last season, then skipped his senior season to enter the draft.

The Warriors wouldn't discuss the terms of Dunleavy's three-year contract, but the deal is in line with the rookie pay scale determined by the NBA's collective bargaining agreement. Last year's No. 3 overall pick, Memphis forward Pau Gasol, signed a three-year deal worth $9.6 million.

Dunleavy is working out with the Warriors' summer league team in preparation for league play, which begins Wednesday in Long Beach. The Warriors hope Dunleavy takes over as their starting small forward.

Golden State still hasn't named a coach for the upcoming season, though Dunleavy's father, Mike Dunleavy, is one of the top candidates for the post currently held by interim coach Brian Winters.

The Warriors still are working on a contract for Czech guard Jiri Welsch, the 16th overall pick acquired by Golden State from Philadelphia.

I don't think most people think this type of corruption should or would occur at a school like Duke, which shouldn't need to cheat to get top recruits. What happens when the Duke Navigators gets reported nationally?
