I found that funny as well, I guess because I'm not a fan of religion and politics I'm a liberal as well.

Christians and Jews cause some misery in this world, as a matter if fact all people do, but on the whole I think that we more than make up for it by:
-Running 67% of the hospitals in this country.
-By running 73% of the long term skilled nursing facilities in this country.
-By running the vast majority of homeless shelters and soup kitchens in this country.
-By educating almost 30% of the children in this country.
-By running some of the largest charites in this country (I believe that Catholic Charities is the largest charity in many major cities, Salvation Army, Lutheran Charities, etc.)
-Not to mention the work that the religious do around the world (Food for the Poor, Inc., Christian Childrens Fund, Feed the Children, etc.)
So if you want Christianity to go away, remember that you lose these things too.
Private charity could do better, and if you're lumping me in w/ that libs label, you're sorely mistaken.
Aren't Christian charities private ones?

I watched that video (the original link doesn't exist anymore), and I really don't see what you guys are getting all bent out of shape over. So, they were praying over the President. Big Deal. What is wrong with that? I realize that it was a cardboard cutout, but the intent was fine. Being a children's Sunday School Teacher for kids around that age, I can tell you that giving them something visual helps them understand and focus, thus the cut out.
The one thing that did bother me was the lady speaking in tongues. Do I believe in speaking in tongues? Yes I do. Is everyone that does it honestly speaking in tongues? I don't think so. Now, she may have actually been saying a prayer in Hebrew (I know several people that do this and they call it speaking in tongues, but I call it talking in Hebrew). Honestly, I don't know what she was doing, so I will leave that between her and God.
So what is the problem again?

If you cannot view the documentary, you cannot see fully where I (and others in this thread) are coming from. And you seriously believe in speaking in tongues? Wow...

That's what being a deist infers, I'm just wondering.

Why would that surprise you? I openly confess to being a Bible believing Christian, and speaking in tongues is in the Bible (New Testament even).

Science hasn't adequately explained the creation of the universe itself, IMHO, yet. So I am a deist. e.g. - God created the universe, set it into motion, and then left it alone.
Keep in mind here, religion is, BY ITS VERY DEFINITION, explaining the otherwise unexplainable. This is why it fundamentally cannot coexist with modern science, which seeks to explain everything through reason, observation, and most of all... testable hypotheses.

I know some pretty hardcore Southern Baptists... and even they don't believe in it.

I wouldn't call them hardcore then. Also, there is a movement from within the Baptists churches that will lead to the destruction of many that "think" they are following after Christ. Instead, they are following a Christ made in man's image.
Ok, back to the tongues thing. If a Christian does not beleive in it, then they don't believe that the Bible is absolute, and thus their whole belief system should be evaluated. Tongues is a gift of the Spirit, and it has not gone away.

WOWWWWWW. I don't want to get into challenging your beliefs, but presuming the Bible is absolute... God's word... utterly infallable.... then I have some Biblical contradictions (you hit some big ones after just a few pages) that I would love to hear explained.

No offense to GB or anyone else, but as the son of an ordained Southern Baptist minister, my belief is that many Southern Baptist churches do little more than push people (especially newer Christians) from the Word.
Many Southern Baptists are afraid of that which they can't explain and choose to either a) vilify it, or b) ignore it. So, if a Southern Baptists says that something is not true or evil, jut punch them in the head.

Why would I take offense at that? Wednesday's is my punch a Southern Baptist in the head day. I am not SB or any other denom. I don't base my beliefs on what my pastor or any pastor says. I don't base them on the church/denom doctrine either. It drives me crazy when people answer questions like this "Well my pastor says this, so that is what I believe as well."

That's because it's mainly practiced in the Pentacostal faiths. You act as if people that don't believe what you believe are someone mentally-challenged. How condescending.

This thread proves exactly what I have always believed. Non-Christians, well, the ones that don't believe in religion, are more dangerous than Christians. You you guys are spending your entire time attacking Christianity, while people like GB and myself are trying to defend it. We're not attacking anything about you....it is the other way around.

No, I acted shocked that in this day and it's apparently still prevalent in areas. Now if I were to label those who spoke in tongues as Abigail Williams... well... then THAT would be condescending.

Show me one thread I have started that was an attempt to proselytize. You can believe whatever you want to believe. Not my problem. I have seen COUNTLESS threads here about how "warped" those "Jesus Freaks" are. Gets kinda old.
