All-star center Tim Duncan has been away from Winston-Salem for a few years, but he's planning to leave his mark on the city.

The Wake Forest graduate and his partners have decided to open a 7,000-square-foot downtown restaurant there in a two-year-old, 13-story office building. The Caribbean-themed restaurant will be called Tim Duncan's Island Sports Cafe.

The board of aldermen's finance committee will consider a $250,000 loan request by Lifestyle Ventures of Memphis, the largest owner in the proposed $1 million restaurant. If the committee approves, the full board will consider the proposal.

Lifestyle Ventures has developed restaurants and entertainment venues in Memphis and Chicago. Duncan has a 10 percent ownership in the restaurant, which will include a sports cafe and retail center selling Tim Duncan memorabilia.
